Is this possible ............. I am looking at buying another pickup, 68 1/2 ton with no box. I want to put on a step side from a late 80s. just wondering if this is do able and if anyone has pics of one would be great.

I used to have a stepside 68 with a late 70'S bed, I don't have any pics but it looked ok.

There are lots of guys who have done those........my opinion is that it looks OK but really destroys the look of the 67-72 truck. I seen a late 80s truck here in town once for sale that fooled everyone,it was an actual step side 89 model,with a early cab on it believe it or not........looked just the same as an early cab with late model bed conversion but was just the opposite. This thing had the entire frame,drivetrain,interior and exhaust,bed and grafted firewall from the late 80's truck with a 67-72 cab,.........the work done was incredible but still the look didnt do it for me.

MY OPINION... it looks better than the stupid flairside bed too many ppl do... but it'll still be ugly
The rear fenders are too bug and 'bubbly' for lack of a better word. Then you still have the mismatched wheel well openings to look at.

Now, you could install that bed, and get 68 - 72 stepside fenders.... and no one would ever be any wiser.

I just looked at the thread title again....
what year is this bed you want to install? Is it the 73 - 87 bed, or the 88 - 98 model sportside?

I was assuming a 88-98 stepside myself was what he was talking about........we all know what happens you I assume though.

Im with you myself,everyone says that the 88-98 stepside/sportside beds look great on these trucks,I have to disagree highly myself.

This is MY opinion, but they were ugly on the 73-87 trucks too!

Thanks guys , just wanted to see what you all thought. Any way went to look at it again today and he sold it out from under me. Guess better off that way..........never fails day late dollar short.

Here you go. This is lowered now and it looks really nice. Doesn't really do it justin way up in the air like that. I prefer the original fleetside but for know I don't mind it.
