Is this worth $1100??
OK, I'm a 67-68 guy, but have always liked the 64-66 trucks too. I found this one locally for $1100.
A copy & paste of the description: 1964 Chevy 1/2 Ton Short box on a 1970 1/2 ton frame. Has front disc brakes, 5 lug wheels, 12 bolt rear end. New windshield all glass is good except drivers vent window. Has a tilt wheel a late model bench seat. Some rust in the floor and new tires. No motor or tranny $1100.00. I may go look at it today if I get time, and see what his bottom dollar is. Not to replace the 68 (check my build thread link below), but just as another toy I don't really need! I figured at the very least: tilt column = $125 new windshield = $175 5-lug disc front end = $200 late model bench = $100 $600 in stuff I would have bought or had to buy anyhow. Anything thing special to look for on this body style? My Dad said to look closely at the rear of the front fenders. I am expecting some rust. I haven't hear back from the seller yet, but I can't tell from the pics if the front fenders and hood are new replacements, or if they have just been primered/painted. Just looking for opinions. Not sure what these body styles sell for........ The pics are crappy, but I am hoping to go look at it sometime this week.

Re: Is this worth $1100??
A good, used swb fleetside bed will bring between $400.00-$600.00, depending on condition.
Take a close look at: front fender tails inner fenders at radiator support & hood hinges radiator support at frame rails cab corners rockers kick panels floor boards cab supports rear wheel arches at braces "A" pillar drip rail above windshield Check for these desireable options: factory power-assist steering factory power brakes Custom steering wheel & horn ring factory dash with gauges & tach factory AM radio factory chrome dash knobs factory driver/passenger arm rests factory driver/passenger sun visors factory AC factory seat belts factory jack, handle & lug wrench factory underdash ash tray Custom Cab sails Clear title matching VIN tag Any of these options will add to the overall value of the truck, especially if you plan to sell the parts you don't use to recoup your investment. Re: Is this worth $1100??
5 lug was available in 71, and some 70 1/2 models. It has a 70 frame, and even if it had 6 lug, the crossmember as a whole is swapped out with just a few bolts. So there really is no fab work, just unbolt-swap-bolt. On a bare frame it can be done in just under a couple hours.... with beer breaks. Besides, if I added up all the different year components on my 68..... well, I can't count that high! Either way, it definitely wouldn't be completely stock/OEM when it hit the road again.
LILRED66 - Thanks for the list! I am expecting the usual rust found on the 67-72's --- cab corners, rockers, door bottoms, and floor. All of which are very easy to repair. I'll take the flashlight and mirror with me just to be sure!

Be sure to ask the owner for any additional parts, if you end up buying it. I have acquired lots of extra parts, simply by asking the owner for them...most of the time for no additional money, simply because they want to get them out of their garage. It never hurts to ask, so don't be shy.

Re: Is this worth $1100??
Oh, don't worry, I'm not.....
Seriously though, same story here. I went to Sterling, CO once to pick up a 70 1/2 ton 2wd that I bought for $500. I ended up coming home with the truck, 2 sets of front fenders, a bench seat, a box of glove box doors, and a 67-68 hood. He just "wanted them out of his way"!

Re: Is this worth $1100??
Real hard to tell from the pic, but the passenger side door....does it look like maybe the door check is broke (these trucks are notorious for that) and the wind caught it and creased the door? I hate repairing dents on body-lines.

Kinda hard to tell, the pics are pretty crappy. I'm hoping to hear back from the guy today so I can go look at it this afternoon.

Re: Is this worth $1100??
Seems to be worth it to me. Especially since it's a short fleet. Looks to be a custom cab also. Maybe he still has the trim and the cab emblems.

Re: Is this worth $1100??
Not all Custom Cab/Custom Comfort Cab trucks had the big back window. The big back window is an option, just like the Custom Comfort Cab, so you could have this option with a small back window.

Re: Is this worth $1100??
in my opinion, even being a short fleet, with no motor no tranny, $500 tops. I bought one way cleaner less than a week ago for a $100 and its a driver.

I would have bought a dozen, for that kind of money! Must have been a pretty motivated seller. Nice purchase. |

Re: Is this worth $1100??
i'd say worth it if its not a complete bucket. i mean needing a cab because of rust.
motors and trannys are dime a dozen. good cabs are not. |
