heater hose quick connector leaking?

I noticed the quick connector for the heater hose, on the intake monifold, was seeping a little. i went to napa and got a new one. when i pluged the metal end of the hose it, it fit real loose. i don't see how it will hold, even before there is pressure.
is there a better way to do this, or should i just get a hose barb fitting and some hose clamps. then i will know it is tight.

The quick connect fittings are a common problem.

There are stainless steel quick connect fittings made, but I don’t know where they can be purchased.

You did good to get the old connector out without breaking it off in the manifold which happens often.

Some people do just as you suggested – replace the quick connector with a fitting that the hose can connect directly to.

The hose can wiggle around a bit with the connector still able to seal.

The 1 on my tahoe will leak if you pull on the hose, but seals up fine otherwise. Just screwing in a pipe fitting is a common solution.

There is an easy fix to this problem. You can go to your local advance and get a 1/2" npt heater nipple and run a regular heater hose to the heater core. There is a restrickter in the factory hose and some say that if you do it the way that I suggested that it will blow out you heater core but I have not yet had any problems with mine. 7 bucks is all that this will cost you.

thanks for the helpful advise. it was like 10 below 0 outside, and i didn't want to get stranded on the road because of this el cheapo patented connector. i don't think ford would even claim this as a better idea.

i ended up putting another small o ring on, so it fits halfway tight. it didn't leak, so i think i will leave it alone. good to have that fixed without any major headache.

Any GM dealership has the new replacement steel ones...the original ones were made of a semi porous metal that over the yrs absorbs the coolant and swells..usually resulting in the threads breaking in the manifold when you try to remove it...the new ones work perfect...and yes the do feel really loose on some but usually no probs...

It probably didnt help if that GM dexcool was in your system either.....they finally settled on that lawsuit against GM not too along ago for repairs on some models. Ive had to change that same connector out along with the intake gasket. And didnt bother putting that GM stuff back in. When with the green stuff so its noticable in the oil if that gasket fails again.
