I need a picture of...
Where the black wire goes on a internaly regulated alternator. I have one ready to put in, and I know how to fix the wireing, but I can't figure out where to put the black wire. The vehcile I took my alternator out of didn't even have the black wire, but isn't that the ground wire?

If you are using a Delco int. reg. alt., then this is what you need to hook it up. The wire shown hooks to switched power wire (usually white). I have them if you're interested. This is the right way to do it, and it's pretty simple.

Ok, thanks. I got the kit to convert the wireing, but I need to know what to do with the black wire.

I'm not sure what black wire you are talking about. On the adaptor that I pictured, the red wire is the ground wire, and hooks to the ground terminal on the new alt. The only wire used from the old plug is the switched lead, the other 2 (on my truck anyway) are un-used with this adaptor. You might post a pic of what you have to help us understand. My point is that you do not have to convert any wiring, just use the adaptor I pictured. This is a very easy conversion if done correctly, in fact it is just plain simple.

I know it is simple, I just don't know where that one wire goes, can someone just take a picture of the back of the alternator? I don't have a digital camera, or I would show you what I mean. When I took my old alternator off, there was a red wire, a plug, and a black wire, all attached to the alternator. I just need to know what to do with the black wire.

theres not a place for that wire your talking about on my int. reg. altenator, so i just layed it on a metal part (assuming its a ground, hope so!) i left my old external one hooked up though

I grounded that wire on mine. No problems and a full 13.4 - 14.4 range pumpin uot of the alt.

It never ceases to amaze me the extent that some people will go to when the obvious answer lies right in front of their eyes. It floors me that some people try and make this changeover so difficult, when in reality it is so simple if you use the right parts. Get a clue! It's easy if you just pay attention and do it right. In fact, it's so simple, some of the experts on this board can even do it! All in fun Y'all, hell, I did it and it worked!

I converted mine from info off this board and it all works like a charm, I used aftermarket guages and also have my idiot light hooked up too! I used a DC10 with the plastic fan, alternator. And my 67 also had this black wire and it was attached to the old alternator housing as a ground and I reinstalled it as a ground on the new alternator. I get around 15-18 volts can't remember for sure but its good.
