transfer case?

Hey guys, I need a little schoolin' on trannys with transfer cases. I found this 700r4 for sale but it was out of a 4wd and has a transfer case. Can I simply take the transfer case out and use this tranny on my 2wd automatic? If yes, is there anything else I would need to buy to make it work? Would the transfer case be at the end of the tranny or is there a separate tailshaft? If I need a tailshaft, can I use the one from my th350?

Here is the email I got from the guy. What do you think? Good deal or not?

"I was told that the setup had 60,000 miles on it and it came out of an 84 K5 Blazer. I was told that it was in great working order 2 years ago when i got it but i never hooked it up or tried to use it and its been sitting covered in my shed ever since. It does have the transfercase and i don't see why it wouldn't be able to work in a 2wd if it was removed. I don't remember if it has the converter or not but i will check when i get home from work today. I am looking to get $150 for it since i paid $200."

Thanks for any help.

Re: transfer case?

Okay, this 700r4 is tranny, right? And you want to use the 700r4 in your 2wd? Assuming I understand your question, you will need to remove the transfer case and then you would need to source a 700r4 rear output from a 2wd 700r4.

Thank you. I believe you answered my question. I simply wanted to know if I could remove the transfer case and what I needed to make the 700r4 work on my 2wd.

Re: transfer case?

After sitting for 2 years it would be a good idea to rebuild it anyways. Sitting like that could let moisture build up and start internal rusting. Plus an 84 700R4 is not that great of a trans. They had alot of bugs inthem that didn't get worked out until the later 80's
