Torque Converter????
I have a '67 c10 with a 427 engine w/ headers complete dual exhuast a TH400 and brand new posi 3.08 gears. It currently has a 2500 torque converter in it. I was wondering what i would gain by putting in a higher, say 5000 rpm, stall converter in? What exactly does the converter do, what would the switch change as far as daily driving, and would it be a good move?

In My Opinion, your converter now should be plenty for what you have. MAYBE a 3000 or so depending on if you are at the track at all. With your rear end gears you will never see 3000 in 3rd unless you're moving pretty good on the highway. Your converter will constantly slip a little until it hits that RPM mark. So unless you plan on hitting 5000 RPM around town all the time, I would stay away from it.

2500 is the very most I would run in that.... if memory serves, 60 MPH is right at that point, so any time you are going slower than that (in 3rd), the converter is actually slipping, and heating up the tranny fluid pretty bad.

So sticking with whats in it is a good choice. That saves me some money.
