2000 Chevy Rear End in a 69?? Will it work?

Hey Fellaz,
Im in the process of putting my 69 back together, but I need to get a new rearend or do a WHOLE lot of work to my old one. My current rear end is a 12 bolt, but has 373 and I want a 308 posi. Also I have a lot of brackets welded on top for my old air bag setup. I don’t want to carefully cut off all the old brackets (including the original trailing arm mounts) and have to replace the 373 with a 308 posi if I can simply replace the Whole thing with a new rear end out of a 99 or newer chevy. My only concern is whether the wheel base is the same length, and is the bolt pattern the same on my 69 six lug as the newer chevy six lugs. If you guys have any good info let me know..

Well I've seen and old 69 or 70 rolling around with the '99 and newer wheels, so I'd say the bolt pattern is the same. Measure wheel hub to wheel hub for both axles to see if they match. Otherwise I don't have a clue, also don't the 99 and newer rear ends use a disc setup? Which may require a different porprotioning valve. Good luck

the part truck where i work had a rear axle go out and they just replaced it with a salvage unit. we still have the old axle laying in the junk pile. If I can remember I will measure the axle tomorrow. the front track is about 60 inches I believe the rear is approx. 58 I can't remember if those measurements are exact, it has been a while since I measured.

The newer rear end is much wider! I have a 3.73 posi out of a 2000 with discs that I thought about using on my 67 til I realized how much wider it is than the 72 rear end I also had and ended up using. The 2000 rear end is $3250 from GM! Complete. I got it for hauling it off. And no its not stolen!
