Vintage Air Advice

I am looking at putting a vintage air surefit system in my truck soon. I was hopping I could get some advice as were the best (least expensive) place to purchase from. I am on a tight budget but have been able to put aside some Christmas, Birthday, and side job money over the last couple years to install A/C in my truck.

I found a guy on ebay a couple months ago that had one for $985.50. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this supplier (Gordon’s rod shop Phone# 1-479-216-1994)?

Would it be a good idea to replace the stock firewall insulation before installing the A/C or go with a newer material in that area? Is there any other things I need to do before I put the kit in that I could not do after the fact?

I have already picked up a good used factory air controller at a junk yard for $5. I have a new 4 core radiator with a/c outlets and an electric fan in my stock shroud.

Thanks for the help

Re: Vintage Air Advice

did that come with a condenser, also that is about the average price,i would do the work to the firewall before you get it,that was one of my options i was going to do to mine.i wanted a/c,better milage, and softer ride, and after adding it all up,it was more then another truck, but sounds like a good deal to me

Re: Vintage Air Advice

Get the "sure fit" kit for a 67-72 that uses a factory A/C controller, if you don't have one, you can buy one used, they're pretty $$$ new. If you get the kit that uses the "heater controls" you have very limited adjustability with your A/C.

I bought direct from vintage air. It was $1150 total w/ shipping.

Thanks

It blows ice cold in the summer. I have to turn it down after 10 minutes.

Re: Vintage Air Advice

Thanks guys for the quick responces. I think I will follow 67ChevyRedneck lead and order straight from the factory for the extra security, I get a little leary of ebay when I would be spending that much money.

67ChevyRedneck I do have a factory controler I plan to use for the better control. What did you do to your firewall before you installed your surefit system?

Nothing. Just used the supplied covers.

Read through my FAQ (the second link, second post) and you'll get more info than you could want
