Opinions on New Rims & Tires
can i get your opinions here?
here's a pic of my truck with 33's and a pic of the possible new wheels. i've got a 4" lift and 33" tires currently (BFG 33x12.5x15) i'm looking at some new rims, 17" mickey thompsons, with 35" tires (BFG 35x12x17) i'm strictly a pavement pounder with little to no off road action. from the pic can you tell if i'll have enough room for the tires? i don't see a lot of blazers with 17's...is this too big or is it just not as common? appreciate your comments...

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
You ought to be fine for how you use your K5. Have someone turn your steering wheel as you observe the tire clearance. The 35" tire will require about 1" of additional clearance so keep that in mind as you watch the tire clearance.
My 69 K20 had 35"s and 4" of lift for along time and never had any problems driving around on pavement. Sure if it was offroad and crossed up it would have had issues, but not on the road. I like the 17" rim size and think it would look real good on a 35" tire.

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
I have 35x12.50s and only a 3inch body lift, put on by the po. I have zero problems with them rubbing at all. I have even taken through some easy trails an no problem. The outside diameter should be the same so it shouldn't be an issue...But I don't think most 17 inch wheels have the same offset and that could cause you problems. Make sure the offset is at least what you have now. Can you slap them on to try them out before you buy?
BTW I love your truck, it's what my "after" pictures should look like Here is the before |

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
ya got a sweet rig there big chief! i'm sure that thing will be nothing short of elite when she's all done. thanks for the reply. i don't think i'll be able to put the wheels on prior to purchase considering it's a private party deal. sounds like from what i've heard it should be ok though. the mickey thompson 17x9 rims (6 on 5.5 bolt pattern) has either 4.5" or 5" backspacing. the tires are the same BFG's i have now but just 35" (i still need to measure the new ones to see exactly how tall they are).

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
what do ya think about the price on those wheels?
i talked the guy down to $500 tread is about 75% and wheels are in nice shape, no damage. i figured i could probably sell mine for at least that much and break even?

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
That's a great deal. You could get that for yours on craigslist or here. Just put his on and try them out before you buy. He should agree to that. Even if you just put one on the front and turn the wheel all the way and maybe drive over a curb just to be sure.

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
You should have no problem clearing 17's with a 4.5 inch backspacing and 35's. That is what I have on my Blazer. The lift is a 6 inch (I think) that was installed by the PO.

Should clear, I also have 35's and a 4/6 lift with no major issues.

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
ok here they are! i'm stoked on em...turned out great i think.
i like em a lot better than the old wheels. i think i should be able to sell the old wheels for the same price i bought these for so it'll be like a free upgrade there is no rubbing at all with the wheels cranked thankfully. thanks for the help guys

Re: Opinions on New Rims & Tires
They look tough
I think the 35s give it a much tougher stance. I am upgrading mine soon too with some new bling and mud terrains. Looks great |
