air suspensions
After looking at some of my suspension today really for the first time since I bought the truck, is air suspensions worth the money? and which one should I look for if I am just looking for something mild for better suspension and maybe a mild drop?

Re: air suspensions
if your just going for a mild drop its not really worth it
if your going for a major drop it would be more worth it for the amout of stuff you have to change over in an air suspension for a mild drop you would only have to change springs and spindles

Re: air suspensions
Scoti is on the right track. If you go with dropped spindles up front, and air in the rear you have a easy system to build on.

Re: air suspensions
I agree with both scoti and n2trux. I would go air in the rear no matter what. Especially if you plan on carrying loads or hauling. This way you can support a load and still maintain a ride height that looks and functions well. For a mild drop in the front, a static drop is cheaper and will accomplish what air can.

Re: air suspensions
ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) offers a 4/6 drop kit. Check out the drop pics on ECE's website and that will help guide you for the look you are after.
ECE builds some great products and know these trucks inside and out. I plan on purchasing the 4/6 kit for my '72, but swapping out the 1.5" drop springs for 2" springs for a 4.5" drop in the front. As mentioned above, with only wanting a mild drop, I wouldn't go with a complete air suspension. Maybe just a rear air bag setup, then if you decide to build on the air system later all you have to change out is the front, and possibly the compressor, tank, and valves.

How much does it affect everything up front by using dropped springs? If it affects it very much is there an aftermarket upper/lower control arm that corrects the coil drop? Last edited by tdave00; 02-25-2008 at 01:55 PM. |
