It`s a fantastic truck. This is about integrity of the hobby.
Very well put. Im curious to see if he changes it (though I doubt he will). Doesnt ebay have a pretty strict stance on misrepresentation in ads?

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Read my post above. I e-mailed him about the VIN descrepitancy, and he admitted that the truck was indeed a 71, instead of a 72, but he still claimed the big block was the original engine:

"SORRY MY WIFE LISTED TRUCK, IT IS A 1971 I TRIED TO CHANGE IT BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME, THE 402 BIG BLOCK IS THE ORIGINAL ENGINE,THANKS"

As you can see he told me he tried to change the description but it would not let him (whether this is true or not, I don't know). I am guessing even if he is honest and realizes his mistakes, he won't change them.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

It does indeed have 72 door shells with 71 door panels and rests. Also has a 72 glovebox door emblem. Nice truck, but the description leaves something to be desired... He did add that it is a 71...

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Ohhhh yeahhhh, starting in`68.They are the true muscle trucks that led to all the crazy pricing. It all started with loaded 71/72 short Fleetside CheyenneSuper big blocks and everything else started being priced by what they were bringing.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I've never understood why peopple claim one of these trucks "numbers-matching" anyway. The last numbers of the vin are not stamped into the engine block, like they were on the musclecars. There are no numbers to "match."

Yes, mine came from the factory with 402/4speed but some genius (P.O.) pulled that combo and put in a 350/350.

Just give an honest description and I`ll fight off all the other criticizers.
As far as numbers matching on these trucks, true not the numbers like on cars, but there are still numbers for everything the truck came with that should match the equipment and configuration.A truck that can be verified to have come from factory with a load of desirable or rare options is worth more than one that a guy added the stuff to.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Here is what I would put: Nice old red and white Chevy truck for sale. See pictures. Email specific questions. =)

These auctions only get posted on here for everyone to gang up on.

If you are in the market for a truck that costs this much money and you don't know what you are looking at, its your own fault for letting yourself get screwed.

Say I had no clue about these trucks, but I really loved the look and style and just had to have one. I would do lots of internet research and probably end up here. I would post this auction up and ask for expert (and some not so expert lol) advice. That would be the time for the circling vultures to land.

But hey thats just my opinion

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I feel the same about having as much sense as money.I would only pay over $10,000 for an old vehicle if I knew what I was looking at.But,sellers are still responsible to be as honest as possible and not present themselves as knowing what they`re talking about if they don`t.I wouldn`t make a claim I didn`t know was true. This guy used the "factory numbers" thing when he didn`t even know the basics about the first digits in the VIN.
The problem with "the buyers should know better" thing is people don`t know what they don`t know and we can only trust what a seller claims. We have nothing else to go by.Especially a sight unseen (in person) long distance sale of a 35+ year old vehicle where you pay in full before you get to touch it.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Okay, we know that the numbers don't add up. He may or may not know that, too. If the sale was on the website that we know and love, then he'd have to be a member and would know better, too.

Since it is on eBay, he's offering it to a group of people who may also be as savvy as we like to think we are. They will know that the numbers don't match.

I, for one, have a real issue with the statement that it has 44000 original miles. Since these odometers roll over at 100K, and since most states have long stated on the titles that the mileage may not be true.....If that is true, then my truck only has 13K miles. Sadly, there are many, many people who will look at a nice vehicle displaying "low" miles and make that assumption without the seller saying anything to the contrary.

It comes down to Caveat Emptor. Either you do, or you don't.

Hey Tim (special-k), this sounds just like our conversation at Carlisle last year doesn't it.... Easy to pick a truck apart when the seller doesn't disclose, or know, the facts!

Nice truck though..but I wouldn't buy due to his feedback... maybe in person

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Yup,I guess it`s a pet pieve of mine.Represent what you know and admit when you don`t know. It`s all we can do.An old machine is enough of a crap shoot with an honest sale.Let`s keep it at that.
I bought an`84 K/30 from a small used car lot in PA.The price wasn`t that negotiable because the dealer said he just put a new tranny in it(TH400).It was an "as is" sale,np warranty.A couple weeks after I bought it smoke started pouring out from burnt trans fluid.I went back and told him he better take that "new" trans back to his guy and have it fixed. The guy supposedly fixed a seal(bad seal?/new trans?).It started leaking again and I told him I was tired of screwing around with his BS and was taking the truck to a shop I trusted and he was going to pay.He said it had no warranty.I told hiom it may not have a warranty, but the sale price was based on the "fact" that the trans was new which it obviously wasn`t.The case was cracked across the top on this "new" transmission.I remimded him that he operates his business under a state license and they don`t like to hear about such blatent dishonesty.I know my trucks and I accepted the deal based on knowing it was good to go with a new trans. He understood my meaning and paid for a "new" trans.

This post is still here???! It should have posted on Ebay as a clone...Nice truck though. If it were mine, it would have fuel injection, an air suspension and overdrive. In the end, does numbers matching and van tilt really matter when you are cruising down the BLVD in your cool truck? (retorical)

WOW I cant believe it went that high. Outside of the wheels/tires, that truck doesnt have a damn thing on my 72. Wonder if I said it was a factory SWB (its a converted LWB) with a factory BBC (factory SBC), no one will catch on and I can sell it for that much too? My odometer says 23k :p

Lol. J/k...

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

It is a nice looking truck. I think the price went kind of in the area most of these trucks would optioned the way it was built.......considering its misleading representation I think it looks decent and sold about right. If I had extra money I would have bid on it.

Also I have tried to figure out all the differences and not on 71 vs 72 trucks and know quite a bit of differences on both but I guess I need to learn more as I looked at the truck and would have guessed 72 also without seeing the vin.Things like the interior color options per year I guess I need to learn.

My truck is a 72,but the original cab is long gone and when I had a 71 cab on it I really liked the body mounted rear view mirror so when I got another 72 3/4 ton cab I placed a 71 mirror mount on the interior but mine also has 72 doors and a 67 frt clip,so mines far from original. It does have the 72 shortwide bed with wooden floor and the frame is still original but thats about all left of the 72 on mine.

Is there a link to a thread that denotes all the 71/72 differences so I can refresh my info??

Exclamation Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Allot of money to some yes. But it would be hard to build this truck for the money he's asking. Integrity is important for sure but so is buyers knowledge, (buyer beware.)

In my books he's done himself more harm then anyone as he is setting himself up to be sued by wrongly describing his truck.

I say lower them, shave them and drive them. Oh yea get out some flat black while your at it.

esll.
