Re: split rims and tube tires

finding a shop to actually work on split rims anymore is the real trouble,so getting rid of those would be the most important part I see right now.

Re: split rims and tube tires

I would replace them, and destroy the old ones. We had a guy get killed from one popping in the motor pool next to ours when I was in the army.. .this was only 10 years ago or so. Everything was done right, it was aird up in a cage like required, installed on the truck, then as soon as the truck was lowered to the ground, BOOM.

Re: split rims and tube tires

split rims are wicked.i have changed them for people for 15 years, yes ,ever since i was 14.anywho,i got too see a splitwheel blow apart as my boss was airing it up about 10-11 years ago,it took his arm off at the shoulder and ripped about a 10 inch long gash down his leg.just spend the cash and get new ones,i would get rid of all the tubes just for the fact that they will never balance out and you will have bad vibrations

Re: split rims and tube tires

That was the first thing I did with my last 71 3/4 with splits. I took them off and destroyed them. I have seen them blow apart...and heard way too many bad stories.
