Door speakers

So I looked and looked and found nothing about fiberglassing or creating some sort of inclosure within the door so you can get a waterproof and air tight proof inclosure. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or seen someone do it. Its difficult because of the lack of room within the door, but I am pretty sure something can be made.
My doors were already cut up so running a pod is not an option because I am just going to make use with what I have.
Suggestions I highly appreciated!!!!!

I know some jeep guys use plastic containers (like cool whip, tuppaware, etc) and glue them on the inside door area to enclose the back side of the speaker.
Maybe that could work for you.

I have that exact same set up on my truck. Running 6X9s in the doors. It was done by the previous owner. He didn't do a very good job and now the bottom of the door is shot from rust and the speakers don't work from water damage. I would suggest finding some way to waterproof the speaker and get new seals and felt for the window.

Whats sucks is that I have brand new everything when it comes down to seals (window felts, window seals, vent seals, door seals) and yet it still leaks...they were never made to be water tight. It sucks about your speakers but maybe this a good thread to work from. Thanks

I put poly speakers in my doors so they wouldn't be too effected by the water.

Felts and weather stripping won't keep water out of your door, water is supposed to drain out the bottom.

The problem happens when the drain holes become clogged with rust and junk.

Also you may consider marine speakers. i don't know how good they may be, but I figure by now there should be good boat speakers out there.

DavidFlores and Neonlarry thanks for the input.....I searched around and those things are pretty cheap in price....How do they withstand for air tight ness?

I'm in on the marine speaker idea also. I had marine 6x9's in my jeep wrangler that rarely had a top on it and they held up very nicely and the sound quality was just as good as normal ones. The only downside is they are quite a bit more expensive.

Look into the speaker backing cups. They are soft rubbery foam made for this. I have a pair that I took out of my 71. They just screw on the back when you install the speaker screws.
I can't say if this is the right term or not.

The marine speakers was an idea but the problem is I already have a brand new set of speakers so buying another set is not going to fly, but thanks for the input.
The baffles are what I think I am going to lean towards. I heard they have them at a local pepboys, so today I will go on the hunt for them. I ran the homedepot yesterday and bought ducting insulation that is about 1/8" thick and has self adhesive on it, I want this to insulated the door some since they sound so hollow. and I also found a utility belt.......yes I bought a utility belt just because it was clearance out for 3 bucks....LOL thought I would share that with you guys. Anyhow. I will be posting pics, I am hoping to have them in by tonight sometime.

You could always buy ABS sheet plastic and fabricate a box. It's pretty thin, rigid, and proper glueing creates a water tight seal.

I had a 70 dodge and cut the doors for 6x9's.

never again.

rust, water, ruined speakers, and rattles never got fixed. I would rather do a headliner set of nice 6.5 rounds and a sub where the gas tank was (well, is currently)

So this is where I am at now......NOT DONE! I started on the doors and ended up realizing more work was needed....the doors had been drilled out from panels that were on the bottom, so the welder came out and away I went. I have to get some filler out to level things out but the weather is not right at the moment. So I started working on metal panels that I decided to go with. Some primer, paint, and clear coat and the panels were back in business.
The baffles are gonna work great and the insulation is gonna fit nicely in the doors. I will keep the pics coming to show the finsihing touch!
