Angry Block ID

I bought what some fool swore to be a Chevy 350 motor for my 67 project .
I looked up the numbers 18488572 and cannot find out anything about this motor. I guess for $100 bucks I should of just bought some beer and my headache would of been about the same, Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Block ID

Well, I am not sure about this but I came across a French site that says something about it being a Pontiac 350.

I don't read french well though.

Re: Block ID

Most Pontiac block numbers start with a 5. Some do start with a 9 or a 4, and a couple start with 3's. I can't recall any starting with 1. If it is a Pontiac, and it was made after 68, the cubic inch displacement will be cast into the driver side of the block just in front of the front freeze plug. Olds motor numbers start with 3, so rules that out. Buick maybe?

Re: Block ID

If I remember correctly the Buick had the distributor in the front of the engine.
All Pontiac blocks have a hydraulic lifter valley pan. The distributor hole is located on the rear deck of the block which allows for the easy intake removal without disturbing the distributor
4th digit reveals that it should have been made in either 1978 or 1968 (look for the motor mount holes, should be 2 if 68 and 4 if 78)
2 freeze plugs 66 or earlier
3 freeze plugs 67 to 78

Re: Block ID

Isn't the pontiac transmission mounting to the engine different than a chevy?
