Aftermarket Body panels
Anyone use them much? How well do they fit? Who makes the best?
I am looking to buy doors, fenders, and a bunch of other stuff soon. Has anyone ever used the stuff Southern Kentucky Classics sales? |

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
Alot of guys like certain brands of metal triplus is one and goodmark is selling a brand now I can't think of the name right off! Most of it is from over seas. I think it's better than dealing with something rotted out. Sometimes you have to consider how much time you put in to a piece to fix it, your better off buying new. I believe original is preferred but not always attainable. You will have to modify some! Also you'll need to ckeck body mounts this will play a roll in lining things up! You might need to check your hinges also! oldno7

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
blazntn, there are some things about aftermarket you should know.First they are like originals in that they will require you to shim and adjust to fit. There are also some cheaper repops that may not fit as well. Most of the vendors on this BB will give you a discount if you are a BB member.Try to pick up what you need at a swap meet or from the vendor if you can, sometimes you can save almost half off your cost by avoiding shipping.
BTW where in Tn are you?

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
True, but Tim Christian will give you better deals than they will, he is a
Vendor from here, he is in TN, and he comes this way to shows all the time. I got all my stuff from him, and still have more to buy. But ........ what was said above is very, very, very true about aftermarket parts. (Good) Repop's / Aftermarket parts, none are made in the USA (Better) OEM Sheetmetal that can be bought from here / Ebay (Best) NOS, if you can find it buy it, there is no substitute

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
I used LMC stuff on my swap from the GMC to the Chevy and it lined up pretty nice with a real GM '67 grille. Granted all the companies parts will need alignment work at the shop, these worked well and cost much much less than the other guys.

We use aftermarket panels and have since the 70's. We sell them as well as install them on most all makes of vehicles not just chevy trucks up to late models. We also use OEM panels due to insurance companies like State Farm. There is No aftermarket panel that is going to fit perfect eveytime no matter what company/brand/vendor makesor sells it. We sell Triplus and while they are a great product it does not mean it will fit every time on every truck. we have had to trim a part on one truck and not the next one. It takes skill to put parts on correct. We just finished a 2008 lexus 435 and the front on it snapped together like Legos that doesn't take much skill. Southern Kentucky sell 's Triplus and you can't go wrong with dealing close. Mike |

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
I need to chime in here because i was going to make my own post on this topic. I hope i dont piss to many people off.
I bought a bunch of different body parts from different people. Here is what i found. I purchased rocker panels, cab corners and front door rear pillar patches. Here is what i found. Wes at Classic heartbeat. Inner rocker, front door rear pillar patch. They fit great, nice solid bends where there should be bends. Tri automotive. Floor pan with partial inner rocker, front door rear pillar patch, outter rocker. Outer rocker fit fine. Only issue is where its bent in a few spots there are some serious waves and ripples, i didnt have a classic part so i couldnt compare. Front door rear pillar patch. HOLY crappy bends. ON the bottom where it is bent and rounded i had to actually cut off because it was so wavey. Floor pan with inner rocker was bent ****ty also. The part of the floor where it should be an L bend its just a half moon. I dont know who makes what parts, but i have a few other parts that i ordered from Tri that im not going to install. Just take to much time to get em to fit right. I really dont want to bash, tri's service was awesome. Fast and cheap shipping. Just dont like the parts... |

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
I used an aftermarket right fender for my 67 clip, after I got it I realized I should have fixed the stock one. The problem with mine was the crease around the headlight being all wrong, probably spent 10 hours fixing the folded metal there, then I had to spend probably another 10 hours [I am slow] to get the fender to match the stock hood. ymmv...

Re: Aftermarket Body panels
Original Sheet metal is easier to work with it's softer metal.
It has sharper corners with is very noticable on tailgate edges and beds side aligment and grill aligment. I have heard some bad stories about door window rails being way off when bolting them on a cab!
