Re: single wall vs double wall top

single wall bolt thru the top into the bed. Double walls bolt thru the bed into the top. And singles have a dome light. I think doubles look a little cleaner, but much harder to take off. The bolts are under the side panels. Started singles in 72, but used up all their doubles first. So many 72's had single.

Re: single wall vs double wall top

I think single wall tops are stronger, and less likely to bow(on top). Double wall tops seem to be worth half what a single wall top is worth, not sure if they are just better or just not as many exist.

Actually, it's the exact opposite. Single walls bold down through the top of the bed. There are threaded inserts in the bed rails. If you have interior panels, it makes them easier to remove.

double wall tops show more sag and can have a tendency to split at the seam. Dobule walls are also heavier, but I don't know if there is really enough weight difference to really notice since they are both heavy and awkward to handle.

Re: single wall vs double wall top

I Agree With Bouncy
Both Heavy And Awkward
I Think Interior Trim Should Dictate Wich You Should Want
Rear Side Panels=single Wall (bolt In From Top No Removal Of Interior Panels)
No Rear Panels=double Is Ok (bolt In From Bottom Of Bedside)
Trust Me Both Can And Will Crack If Not Taken Care Of Or Not Installed Properly Ie:not All Of The Mounts Bolted In And Then Offroading
Po. Proved That To Me

Re: single wall vs double wall top

I'd go with a single wall. I have a double wall and the steel inserts in the top are old & a few are stripped. Also when the seize up and youtry to remove the bolts, the inserts rip the fiberglass. Go Single wall IMHO.

Re: single wall vs double wall top

old man jimmy and bouncytruck are saying the same thing.
That is why I bought a single when I had a Jimmy. The single you could take on and off without messing with the side panels.

Ya gotta look kinda closely, but here are some pic's along the rear
windows. BTW if ya buy a 72 it might be set-up for either, "GQ" is.

In these pictures, the Black is a Double, the White is the single
(Look around where the top meets the glass, it's more noticable)

Re: single wall vs double wall top

Keep in mind, 2wds are pretty rare so you may end up waiting a long time for one with a single wall.

Re: single wall vs double wall top

Also the tops have different bolt hole locations in the bed.

Re: single wall vs double wall top

The only really nice top on a blazer is the invisable one as topless is the way to go. forget A/C or softops---just use it as it was desinged TOPLESS RULES---I gently take her top off in april and don't cover her up till November. She seems to like the sun, the air blowing through her inners and gets more looks then any blazer with it's top covering it's assets!! Try topless, you'll love it!

Huck, you paint a pretty picture.Couldn`t agree more, either.I only got a soft top when I had mine so I could go on long trips and have a top in case the weather turned "moist".

So is the Critter.

I'm not a big fan of the soft tops. Never had one on a K5 but had some bad experiences on some CJs in the past. I'm a topless fan unless weather is bad, then the hardtop goes on.
