Front disc brake caliper rebuild

Hey guys is there a link to a detailed front caliper disassembly/rebuild? I took mine apart so I could powder coat them but can't seem to figure out how to remove the outer rubber dust boot??? Any help and or pics would be appreciated.

is the boot attatched to the caliper itself? i havnt taken truck calipers from a 71-2 apart but on sime newer stuff i deal with at work there is just an o ring around the piston

You have a dust boot type seal on the outer perimeter of the caliper bore itself which has a metal lined oring for a press type fit,once the piston is removed the outer dust boot pops out with a small screw driver,then you can use a curved pick or small screwdriver to remove the actual seal for the piston.

Once the inner and outer seal are removed,you need to thoroughly clean the inside of the caliper and the outside of the piston very well. The new seal goes in with ease and needs lubed with brake fluid before trying to stab in the piston...........some guys like me place the new outer seal in right after the inner seal and use compressed air to blow up the outer seal to install the piston.........others with not much experience an install the inner seal then after wetting it down with brake fluid,can insert the piston to around 3/4 depth then install the outer dust boot. Always make sure the piston and seal are lubed with brake fluid and nothing else........wetting them with brake fluid assures a good fit and slides well.

If you attempt the air pressure method to remove the piston I suggest keeping fingers clear and use a controlled low pressure style blow type air set up. I generally use the air to pop them out but also use a few balled up rags pushed into the inside of the caliper so that the piston doesnt shoot out quite as hard.

Just a side note......for safety.

also the top link shows using Wd40 to lube parts up.......I just use brake fluid itself so that there is NO contamination.

so what is the best method to remove the metal O ring that locks on the outer rubber dust seal. The inner seal is cake to remove. I used air to blow the opiston out, cake...but don't get your fingers in the way! And who carries the two new seals???

I learned how to rebuild a caliper on Trucks TV this last weekend. They got a $8 rebuild kit from the store which included everything, seals, etc. If it will help, I can pull that episode off my Tivo and crop out the pertinent part and send it to you, just let me know?
