Does an HEI fit?????

Ok fellas I am almost done with my resto on my '66 chevy fleetside, so my last few parts are finishing with the engine. I haven't attempted to put an hei distributer on but I swear it wont fit.

So will an HEI distributer fit on a my 327 or do I need to do some modifications to the firewall or get a specific distributor.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Re: Does an HEI fit?????

Though the coil-in-cap HEI will fit, as others have attested, I found it too close for comfort and convenience. I went with a new Pertronix distributor and separate coil, allegedly still HEI, but the head is "normal" sized. WIth black cap and coil it looks OEM.

Re: Does an HEI fit?????

No it won't fit. What you need to do is swap the 327 with my 283. THEN, your HEI will fit.

Yeah, they work good, but like they said the cap has to come off to get the setup in.

Re: Does an HEI fit?????

they fit great as long as the po didnt z they frame, move the engine back, cut out the fire wall clear to the cowl, and set the cab down so the wiper motor sits on the coil so it cant be removed without taking the cab off. other than that it fits great!

Re: Does an HEI fit?????

. hei's fit just fine. but as mentioned, you do have to take the cap off, but why would you wanna leave the cap on anyway?? you gotta set it to tdc and put it on the #1 position.

Gotta think ahead!!! When I channeled my '62, I made the firewall recess deeper for the HEI. Made sure to keep all the factory curves and such though. I have alot of time in forming just that stupid firewall! It's pretty tight, yes, but it works good!
