Short tail t400 question
My trans in my 2wd 90 burb is 28"long.
I found a replacement locally, the guy says it came from an 89 pickup 2wd and he says it is 33". Just because both are 2wd, it appears there are different length trans installed in the trucks? yes? John |

Re: Short tail t400 question
The TH400 2wd short shaft is the same overall length as a TH350 2wd is. Makes it a lot easier for doing an upgrade to a stronger more reliable tranny. Don't have to move the tranny cross member back or shorten the driveshaft.

Re: Short tail t400 question
I would say the 33 is a th375. Looks like a th400 (uses the same case) but it has a longer output shaft. Also the spline count would be 27 and smaller in diameter than your th400. The short tail th400 has a bigger diameter output shaft and has 32 spline count.
The transmission mount location will be the same. Speaking of the 33 length th400 (th375) and the 4in short tail th400. The 6in tailshaft th350 overall length is 27 11/16. The 4in tailshaft th400 overall length is 28 3/8. The transmission mount locations are different also. The 6in tailshaft transmission mount is 6.56 in farther forward toward the torque convertor. |
