Exhaust thread - MY TURN

Well my current setup is stainless steel shorties (always leaking), turned straight into Patriot sidepipes (basically 4 foot glasspacks).

I want something new. I dont like the sound of the sidepipes (LOVE THE LOOK, but will have to do without it) and the ehaders are KILLING ME. I have bought the best gaskets, the header bolts, tightened them over and over again and always end up with a leak somewhere.

I want to go with some full length headers (already have them) and one of these mufflers (but am open to suggestions); input is what i need. Especially from those of you who have had some experience with them. I am not concerned with power, mostly functionality. Loud is good, but a good clean, deep, tone is desired. Probably going to use a dumped pipe right after the cab, but may also go with the pipe just barely sticking out being "hidden" out from the rear fender of my stepside.

Like i said, not married to any of these mufflers. Just ready to spend my tax return

Re: Exhaust thread - MY TURN

i know everyone is gonna hate me for this, but......
after a very long debate....
and lots of cars, and trucks, all with true dual exhaust including a 2003 bmw wagon with a 300hp heart transplant....
2006 z51 corvette,
1972 c10,
1971 camaro,
1967 skylark gs
1975 k5
1973 k5

i have tried all kinds of exhaust and i'll be da#@ed if the last set-up didn't sound, perform, and feel better than all the others.
flowmasters don't flow as well as you may think, scavenging suck with chambered exhaust!
dna's are really good and the price reflects that... but they are missing something in the sound department..
hooker, nice but you could do better.
gibson, best out of all of your choices!

but check out the spintechs... i just put on some of their 3" in-outs on my truck, and WOW! what a difference!
it sounds better than my vette!
(my vette has a borla cat back system)
also runner ups would be:
gibson, magnaflow, or dynomax ultra flows..
the sounds from any one of these will be worth your money over the slowmasters.

be very selective in your new exhaust, it might be pricey.... but it is worth it!
2.5" is more than enough for a small block with under 500hp, but 3" sounds better and flows just as well, if not better.you'll need an h or x pipe too!if you can afford the 3", DO IT!
of course this is just my couple pennys

Re: Exhaust thread - MY TURN

if your gonna go with the headers, your lookin for performance right?
a single pipe exhaust will only hold you from that and if your gonna shell out the clams anyway, why not do it right and go true duals? true duals, x or h pipe minimum 2.5 mandrel bent pipes and 2 gibson or spintech mufflers! awesome set-up!! everyone will want to know what you are running! i say the mandrel because your inside pipe diameter is only as big as the smallest part. ie: 3" pipe not mandrel bends = 2.5" @ the bends... so you've got a 3" system that performs like a 2.5" system. pay the extra money to get mandrel bent pipe in whatever size you do, to optimize your exhaust system. its your money, make it work well for you!

If you're building power, it looks like 72swb_327stroker_? has you pretty covered

As for sound, I'm not a big fan of Flowmasters either or glasspacks but it's all bout what you're looking for

I ran 3" pipe on mine for 2 reasons, #1 because I wanted the deep sound & #2 because I have plans of a big block & need the flow
Also I ran single chamber mufflers, cuz I wanted LOUD !!!

yeah yeah.....
lol! these spintechs werent what you were lookin for..... they are way too loud and sound too aggressive for a new mexico chevy.
they are meant too be run at sea level by the coast so as not to disturb the rest of the country. these were meant for a cali truck

Re: Exhaust thread - MY TURN

For some reason it sounds much cooler when a tough exhaust sound is coming from a car. With a truck it's just sounds "normal". The sound i would wantis the one coming from the red Goat.

I will be running a 350 with Summit Race Mufflers
here is a clip with them on a Caddy:

I hope mine sounds similar, I would be happy with that.

Re: Exhaust thread - MY TURN

I'd say mid 60's Corvette "ram horn" style manifolds are the best.

Check out Speedwaymotors.com (tried the get the link, but site is down for maintenance)...they have some really nice looking center dump style cast manifolds that come in a variety of finishes.
