Pulling engine, where do I remove hood?

I have a 72 blazer that I am going to pull the engine out of. I think it will make the job easier if I remove the hood. The question is: Do I unbolt the hood from the hinges, or do I unbolt the hinges from the fenders? Or does it matter? Thanks for your input.

Re: Pulling engine, where do I remove hood?

ive had luck just putting the engine hoist boom as close to the motor as possible, and barely pushing up on the hood to get engines in and out. i just pulled a 402/th400 from a 71 cheyenne last summer that way

Re: Pulling engine, where do I remove hood?

One way is to drill a couple 1/8" holes in hinge before removing hood. It will
line back up when reinstalling.

Thanks to all who contributed, I knew there would be a trick, just like there is with everything on these wonderful trucks!

If you use a leveler you`ll need to remove the hood.
