1970 GMC leaf springs?

Hi everyone i was wondering, I have a 1970 short bed, that one of the leaf springs (1/2 ton)broke and need replacement. Does anyone know if any other year(s) chevy or gmc truck or even car leaf springs interchange with my 70 gmc. you know something more junkyard available. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1970 GMC leaf springs?

I found this site through a link from Bill`s site.I wish he was in my backyard.I don`t know which leaf is busted, but springs from any 67-72 (1/2,3/4,&1t)will work. There are just more leafs the heavier duty the truck. They can be cut to length if you have a leaf that`s longer.
Usually fatigue is the culprit.I`d question the condition of the spring packs. You might try to find a nice complete pair. They won`t cost that much used.

Re: 1970 GMC leaf springs?

Just another idea is if you remove springs and take to your local spring company...It is really not that expensive to have your springs re-worked...The new bushings help too.

Talking Re: 1970 GMC leaf springs?

here's a little bit of worthless trivia for anyone interested. i'm the one person that Bill blames/credits for being in the chevy truck business. i had been parting 67-72s for several years and was at the spring Turlock swap meet about 18 or 19 years ago when Bill walked up to me and wanted to buy my old 72 super 4x4--which i still own. i wouldn't sell it to him even though he tried numerous times to talk me into selling. we talked a few times and he finally picked up his own 72 super 4x4, then another and another etc., until he decided to quit doing toyotas and do chevy's. as they say, "the rest is history".

Re: 1970 GMC leaf springs?

I have a pair of leafs for a 72 blazer that you can have just pay shipping, I'll measure them against my 70 GMC leafs and see if they match tonight if you like.

I agree with you guys!

Bill over at vintage chevy is a great guy, he has always shot me straight! I wish he was over here on my side of the world because I have had to pass up some great deals due to the old logistics issue!

Re: 1970 GMC leaf springs?

Just to clarify everything about Bill @ vintage trucks. everybody is saying that he is the man and you ARE right, he is. But Special-k me too, I wish he was in my backyard too (literally) because i have a condition that i can't leave my house. so for big things like this i usually dont want to have my girlfriend pick up, so i have ask as a favor for one of my friends to pick up at the local scrap yard and don't want to push it and ask for them to pick it up all the way to bill's 30 min drive compared to 5 min drive to my local scrap yard.

Hey,sorry I missed this.Yeah,I remember it.Did it disappear?Did you try clicking on your name to go to your profile? There, you can click on threads started by you.

I`d help you,if I could, with getting parts.I know it`s tough asking favors. But,friends shouldn`t mind. You probably could get the leaf at the local yard.Let them know you need it.Maybe they`d let you know when a truck comes in.
