Any ideas. 10 gallons of muddy gas and a scrap tank.
Hey anyone got an idea of how to legally dump this. I think I'm kinda past using old gas and motor oil to weed fencelines. Although it worked for my grandad real well. Also how do I cut up that tank to get it out of here ( Do I just fill it with water and take a recip saw to it?). -Thanks J

At The New Chevy Dealership That I Work At We Have A Company That We Have To Call And They Take All Of Our Old Oil And Contaminated Fuels
For A Fee Of Course They Refine And Make Oils For Mostly Machine Shops Cutting I Guess Here In Indiana There Name Is Enviro Tech He Said That They Sell Almost All The Diesel Fuel To One Guy And He "rerefines" It And Uses It On His Farm I Think I Would Start A Good Hot Fire And Toss It On But That Is Just Me Probably Not The Safest Answer In The World |

I would mix the gas with some used motor oil and burn it on a brush fire, but I live in the woods and that may not be an option where you live.

I live in the burbs but theres a lot of desert out there and it may get reallocated to it tonight. I'm smelling vapors in my garage and that is where the old gas hot water heater is. Maybe I'm not to old to do some weedin'

Your city should have a waste disposal service - most will take stuff for free to help get chemicals disposed of properly. Check that out as you decide what to do. The desert doesn't need that gunk for sure.

Why do you need to cut up gas tank, can't ya just take it the local metal scrap yard?

Heck I wasn;t sure never really had to get rid of a gas tank before I figured they would make me cut a hole in it or something so they could see it was empty. Of course every time I think something through I usually get it wrong.

Re: Any ideas. 10 gallons of muddy gas and a scrap tank.
years ago the crushers wouldn't take cars with the tanks in them. Could have changed now. You could check with them. As far as cutting on the tank. Back in the 60's when I used an old car for a 4X4. Use to carry a lot of bubble gum, and usually had to patch a hole in the tank when I got home. I've run water thru them, flushed em out every way I could think of. And still when I hit them with a torch you got a surprise. Only good thing, It usually kinda took the dent out. Had more pennies soldered on that old tank than the car was worth. I've read you can put some water in a tank, and add a chunk of dry ice to displace the fumes. Never tried it .

Re: Any ideas. 10 gallons of muddy gas and a scrap tank.
OMJ that is an awesome idea. I called the srap yard a minute ago they told me I had to cut it open so they could se the inside. But I'm going to try the dry ice thing cause I don't have a torch gonna use a cordless recip saw. ive been wanting to try the dry ice dent removal on some of these old thick panels anyways just to see if it works or not. Thanks

Well between the inlet tube and the sending unit hole, they should be able to tell if it's empty, of course if you want to play with dry ice....
