Re: What did you get done? 03/02

Smoked 10 Tri-Tip and 3 racks of ribs for people I know.
Worked on my newest aquisition('79 dually). Went to pick-a-part and found 9 Ford trucks with edelbrock intakes and Holley carbs, snagged 3 of them to sell(all for 460)
Prepping a couple of Turkeys to smoke this week. Other then that ................. I got SICK!

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

Got back Friday from a week in Houston, my first time in Texas. Sad to say I could not wait to leave. Maybe my next trip will be better, I hope. Thinking about heat wave this year.
Trying to get all the fuel system parts for my swap, I have been sent the wrong walbro fuel pump twice, even after emails and phone conversations, getting annoyed.
Started cutting the back yard today and poof, white smoke coming out of riding mower. I said great, tore up the rings. Took the head/valves off, looked good, no damage, when I drained the oil, looked and smelled like there was ALOT of fuel mixed in with the oil. Guess I'll call the snapper dealer to come get it. More $ down the crapper.
Back to work tomorrow.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

well last week i put my truck into a long time contractor of mine to get the transmission rebuilt. I told him to take his time and im in no hurry so i havent seen my truck for a week, and will prolly see it some time this week. I did take the time to order some parts from a member here , duallyjams (James) and recieved them so i finally got the trim i need for the grille and the emergency brake assembly so my pedal doesnt keep falling down and putting the brake light on. He is great to do business with BTW like all the others ive dealt with here
In addition i went to the junkyard with my son and found the speakers i need for my truck and possibly a hood which is in better shape than the one i have on there now
the rest of the weekend was spent running plumbing and electric into the closet which i kinda opened up so that i could set up a washing machine for my wife.. we were tired of laundromat trips lol
we have lived here for the last two years and its been slow progress you know what they say lol the shoe makers kid runs barefoot well the contractors wife has the junky house lol. She celebrated by doing umpteen loads of wash
we also got rid of a bunch of stuff using craigs list and hopefully ill have the dining room done real soon

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

Not as much as I had planned.

I had planned to get the engine completely put together but I hit a snag with the Timing Set. I think it's the wrong one. Chain was too short and 1 of the 3 cam bolts wouldn't line up once installed. I did get the engine painted though. I installed the heads, cam and oil pan. Set the intake, carb and timing cover on for the picture.

Coming together slowly. wanna have it running in 2 weeks.

I still need to buy my ignition system next week, get a new timing set tomorrow and finishing buttoning her up. It's going in the '87 below.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

Well, day started off slow but i had the plan set in mind to drop my motor into my truck. With a little help from my brother I managed to drop in. I will show you some pics hopefully tomorrow. I still have to install the carb and accessories along with the elec. fuel pump but at least its in. We managed to do this with rain but with a canopy set up. It also happened to be one of my other brothers b-day so we took him out to eat. At the end of the day.... it turned out to be a gooooooood one.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

I put all my new guages in the dash panel and got it all wiered up ( what a pain in the a$$ !!) but i did have my trusty helper to keep me company. she almost wants to drive as bad as I do. I finaly came up with a way to mount this fuel tank. I got some aluminum angle and made some new mounts. Ill take it in tomaro and have it tig welded together. It should come out nice.. Ill post some pictures of it mounted when i get it in.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

saturday dad came over and helped put the burban front clip on the slug. couldnt find the either set of hood hinges anywhere in the garage. so he went home and told me to call when i found them, then about a hour later i found them in the attic of all places(good thing i finally put the christmas decorations in the attic). sunday dad came back over and we put the hood on. then i got bored and put the radiator and condenser coil for the ac in.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

Saturday I hit the parts yard and picked up a sway bar off of an '88 Burb for $9. I bought some new hardware and Moog bushings at the parts store, cleaned/painted the bar and brackets and put it on the '80. I must say, what an improvement for my $35 investment. I can take corners now like never before and dont have to slow to a crawl when entering the parking garage at work. Used to be that the front left tire would sometimes rub the inner fender when I made the left turn in, now its smooth sailing! I decided to skip the "lowered" ECE brackets and bolted it directly to the frame as a few people in the FAQ suggested, worked great!

Sunday I smoked some chicken quarters and watched the race. All in all it was a good weekend, despite the fact that Carl Edwards won the cup race.

Re: What did you get done? 03/02

I swapped power steering pumps and pulleys for the Serpentine setup and then pulled all the brackets off the motor on the Jimmy.
