Up here in South Dakota they are referred to as "toppers" also. I used this one for many years to keep my tools out of the weather for my job and pit equipment for the stock car races. This pic of my C2500 is from 1980.

It did get cleaned out often and the wife and I would throw sleeping bags in it and go up in the hills camping. That did not make it a camper shell tho.

Still have the GMC but the topper is rotting in a field near Alliance NE now.

I guess it was a whole different era then but I really liked the looks of that truck with the topper. I bought the truck with it already on it in 1979.

Devil`s Tower...nice!
Not a 67-72,but it would bolt right on any American long bed until they started screwing things up.It`s a bit wide in the rear on my`92.I call this a work cap:

I've always known them as toppers or camper shells. Not caps. I don't wear a cap on my head, and my truck don't have one on its bed. I did buy a shiny new cap today though. It took two trips to the guy that put it on for me. First appointment was prep work- $600. Todays appointment was for the install. It only took 20 minutes, and another $600 including the cap. He didn't call it a cap as I do though... he called it a crown

We have always called them toppers too. We call the ones that sit up about 4-6" over the rails caps.

Up here in the NW caps are what city slickers bust in other city slickers A**es... I wear a HAT on my head for baseball, and a Canopy goes on the back of a truck. I actually had the same question abou canopies and how good they would look on one of our pickups... I was thinking like a newer fiberglass one though... custom made Leer or something?
