I'm still in the planning stages for my restoration of a 72 Blazer. The front grill, bumper, radiator support, headlight surrounds, grill trim piece and hood are all in excellant shape. Both fenders and inner fenders need to be replaced. I really prefef the early grill w/the horizontal bar to the open grill of the 72. Can I just replace the grills using a 67 grill support bracket and keep the 72 hood/fenders, headlights? i know the 72 has the lights in the bumper which I may use to hold fog lights or I may just do a front roll pan. I would use the signal/parking lights from the 67-68. Is this doable at a reasonable cost since anything is doable at a price.

No - not as easy as that...

You will need...

67/68 grill
67/68 grill support
67/68 hood
67/68 hood release
67/68 radiator support
67/68 fenders - 67 doesn't have turn signals holes, 68 does

If you can find a complete front clip to swap on - it is much easier...(and usually cheaper)

You can use the lights in the 67/68 grill if you wire them up - the use the same wiring as the 72 signal lights (I would assume).

So yes - it is doable - just need a few more things for your swap...

Thanks for the list. I was hoping that the 72 hood would not have to be replaced because finding one here in NY is not likely and shipping would be prohibitive. I was hoping the same for the front fenders since I have already picked up a good pair. Aforum member has offered to sell me the grill support and hood release so I have that covered. Maybe I'll just restore the front to original 72 while I look for the remaining front parts to change to 67-68. Atleast now I know what I need to gather.

Don't mean to threadjack ya, but I want to see a full shot of this one. If you can make it work right, that would be an original idea (so few of them now). I don't think I've ever heard of it, but looks promising.

Cool it worked, Kurt really knows his stuff. I'll be updating it within the next week as I just got ahold of the grille inserts and headlite bezels.

My front clip is really in good shape. The bumper, grill, lights, outer moulding, hood, radiator support are all in good shape. I only need to replace the inner and outer fenders. I was hoping that my hood could be used with the 67-68 grill. Why do the 72 fenders need to be changed except for the side lights? What are the differences between the 67-68 fron and the 72 except for the obvious grill/bumper/headlights?

That's why I showed you mine, it is all '72 except the grille. If you modify the headlite bucket mounts in the rad. core support, you can even stay with your '72 core support.

I've been away for awhile and haven't checked the thread. Thanks for your encouraging thread on your build. I don't have the skill to try to follow your lead. But I haven't given up the idea. I'll study your build and see how much I have to modify the headlight area in the radiator support. Your work is great.

It's not hard, you can do it with a rivet gun if you don't have a welder. One cut across the '67 grille, mite work for'69-'72 chevys as well. Drill out spot welds on your headlite bucket, drill two square holes and a hole for the spring

I was lucky and got a '67 core support, made it easier
