Question Move My Truck??

MY MECHANIC BUDDY LIVES ABOUT 10 MILES AWAY. IF MY KNOCK IS INDEED A ROD KNOCK WOULD IT BE A GOOD IDEA TO DRIVE MY TRUCK TO HIS GARAGE? I CAN'T GET A HOLD OF HIM RIGHT NOW ANYWAY.......UNTIL I SHOW UP IN HIS DRIVE. I THINK IT IS A ROD KNOCK BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE IS INSIDE TRYING TO GET OUT. IT IS MAINLY AROUND 1000 RPM BUT STILL EXISTS IN SOME FORM AT ALL LOW SPEEDS.

I was once told to start disconecting spark plug wires until the knock goes away. One by one of course. When you find the cylinder that is the cause of the knock, dont put the spark plug wire back on. I have been told it will be "safer" to drive it that way, but I can't guarantee it.

Check your oil level and water. Could just be a head gasket. Is it missing?

You dont have to change your oil ,just check to see it maybe it has water in it. Both of my head gaskets blew last year between the center cylinders on both sides and it sounded really bad. Ten miles.....I would have it towed.

ITHINK IT MAY BE MAIN BEARINGS....I STARTED IT TODAY AND WAS LOOKING AROUND FOR WHAT THE HELL COULD BE MAKING THE NOISE AND SAW THAT THE BALANCER LOOKED LIKE IT WAS VIBRATING...THAT WOULD BE CAUSED BY THE MAIN BEARING WOULDN'T IT?

if its wobbling i wouldnt run that thing at all. would pull teh motor out and start tearing it down. do a total rebuild crank kit rods refinished new pistons ring etc. have the block checked at a machine shop to make sure its true. it will probably need bored and possibly align honed depending on whats up with that crank. wouldnt run it or u could ruin a block thats still useable.b/c if whatever is making all that racket lets go ur gonna have problems.

HOW MUCH WOULD A NEW SET OF BEARINGS COST TO INSTALL?? I CAN'T AFFORD A FULL REBUILD RIGHT NOW AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IS STILL FINE. NO SMOKE OR MISSING AT LEAST.

well if your bearings are wore out then check your crank for groves if there is groves in your crank it will need to be turned or replaced just depends how bad the groves are and if it can be turned unless there is a broke rod ,or you have a warped crank or your balancer is shot . you might want to check the balancer first, hope this helped if you need anymore help email me... taking the plug wire off wont stop the crank from turning

sorry i didn't answer your ? how much a set of bearingds cost well if the crank is wore bad then you would be throwing your money away, did you take the oil pan off like i said i am almost sure you have a broke or loose rod i bought a truck once that sounds like the same problem so i rented a car dollie and towed it home dropped the oil pan and it was a loose main bearing i guess the young boys didn't tighten them or forgort when they rebuilt the motor, cheap buy though on my part like i always tell my nephews you never know until you get inside,

Bought a nice 79 C20 once, guy said the motor was rebuilt but it knocked real bad as soon as they started it. Took it home and put a new water pump on it and drove it two years. Then sold it to a friend for a little profit and he drove it two more years then parted ways with it himself. All it was, was a water pump and the guy who sold it was a mechanic and used car sales person. He built the motor himself! LOL Moral of this story is if its off then replace it with new while you're at it.

I KNOW ITS NOT THE WATER PUMP CAUSE WHEN CHANGING BRACKETS I HAD THE BELT OFF THE WATER PUMP AND IT MADE THE NOISE WHILE JUST THE POWER STEERING AND CRANK PULLEY WERE GOING.
