removing 4 spd shifter
What is the process for removing a stock shifter from SM465 transmission? Is it simple or involved?

Push down on the shifter then their is a kind of cover that you rotate and then the cover will slip off, then the shifter will come right out.
Added tip, if you need to get the top cover off the SM465, the shifter needs to be in reverse about half way.

So the shifter is held on with a kind of spring loaded lock-ring? I assume no tools required?

I have an np 435. its real easy. I use a pair of channel locks opened up all the way and push down on the depressions in the lock collar and rotate it counterclockwise. The shift lever then pulls straight out. It looks harder than it is. Once you get the hang of it its a 3 second job.
