cuttin the coils on a 72 C20

k ive been searchin for a lil over half an hour and found nothin on this...

how hard is it to seperate everything to remove the coils, im a gear head in some aspects but never changed the front end on these old trucks yet and would like to do a lil research on doin it the right way

i know you remove the lower bj, swaybar, and shock, but would i have to disconect the keeper for the brake line as well, possibly remove the spindle assembly all together...

and will i have to secure the spring some how as to not have it jump out of its cradle?

No need to secure the spring. Put the truck on jack stands, and place a fkoor jack under the lower control arm. Once you pop the lower ball joint, lower the arm, and the spring will wall out under no preloaded condition at all.

sweet what about the swaybar? will i have to unbolt it as well.... o and do i just use a hammer to pop the knuckle or use a pickle fork

I changed my springs by pulling the calipers, and then taking the nuts off that hold the UCA on. I could pull the UCA out and then down and was able to wedge the spring out and in. Every time I use a pickle fork I wind up tearing boots.

thats what i figured...dont want to taer my boot... allthough that would be more of a reason to install my spindles lol , o would 3" drop spindles work with cut springs?

I have done quite a few and I have only had 1 that would not come apart using the method above. I ended up having to use the pickle fork, porta power, floor jack and lots of aggravation and having to replacethe ball joints anyway. Being a 3/4 ton.....remember.....most parts stores dont have the cheap 3/4 ton 1 ton ball joints and you will have to go with Moog @ about $75 per. Try like hell to keep from messing anything up!!!!
