Re: bad cab corner pics!!

you can go to a local paint shop and have them scan the color of the truck and mix paint to match it.

I can guarantee you it will be rusted through. Plan on installing cab corners and door bottoms. I wouldn't recommend just filling it , it won't last a year. The problem with installing the replacement parts is that they hardy ever fit correctly and need modification.

I wish I had a pic of my 71 k10 that I sold. The cab corner was made of tripple expanding foam.

Re: bad cab corner pics!!

See how deep it goes, and do it right. New metal. I had a experienced body man help me with mine, and it really wasn't that hard. But the bed will prob need to come off and now would be a perfect time for a new paint job. If you plan on doing a paint job in the future but not right now, I would try to grind out the worst of it and coat it with some sort of rust stopper.

Re: bad cab corner pics!!

That looks like normal rust pattern and original paint. You might be able to save them. I would expect some weak areas and holes but they pretty solid. Your really going to have to grind it down to see how bad it is. There are some tricks using a block of brass and a mig welder to "fill in" those weak area as long as they are not to big. There are several chemical that will Kill rust and paints that will stop it from returning. One thing is for sure you need to get that rust stopped now. 6 months could be the differents between saving your panels and replacing them.

Re: bad cab corner pics!!

this truck is the original color but this is not the original paint...it has been repainted awhile back because the inside of the bed side does not match the paint on the truck the bed is a more faded look anyways.....some of you know im only 17 and everything and so i probably wont get a new paint job yet..after another year and a half of high school im going to a 4 year college and getting into there auto restoration program and when i get out of college im doing an off frame resto...i just wanna fix the big problems so it dont look bad and everything....so probably the best way to fix is...take bed off then grind/sand the rust spots down and see how bad they are if they are holey and bad cur the bad out and put in a new piece and if its not all the way threw grind/sand it down and bondo and then take it to get painted....say i do end up doing the body work myself can u use a spray can of automotive primer or is that a no no thanks guys your awesome your helping me convince my dad to letting me do this this summer
