67/68 CST Buckets
A little over a week ago I scored a set of 67/68 CST bucket seats in a wrecking yard. Here is my question.
Has anyone ever seen a set with headrests that comes with these seats? These are low back seats that have headrests screwed to the metal behind the seat and under the rear window. The pics are blurry, but you should understand what I'm showing you. Let me know what you think of these headrests. Are they factory original or aftermarket? The headrests are the same pattern as the seat and look original to me.

Is the seat tracks correct? They may be out of something else. I have seen the mini seat deal in other vehicles.

Longhornmail the seats are correct to the truck. They are out of a 68 CST, plus I found the paper work to prove they are original. The center console has the instructions and a picture/description of how to use the jack. The picture is of a 67 truck front end and cab. I believe they were an A50 code. I will look at the build sheet I found attached to the seat and see the correct code.

I believe they have been added to the seats, or someone could have used the seat backs out of a Camaro, Chevelle or some other car. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

The seats are low backs. The headrests are not added to the seat, just bolted to the back of the cab below the window. Take a look at the second picture and you see the headrests are apart from the seat backs. I just put them on the seat so people get the idea of what I'm talking about.
Also the weird thing is that headrests are the same material with the same pattern as the seats.

A good upholstery shop can take aftermarket headrests and make them match, and my guess is that is what has been done in this case.

Chaptr2,
VERY INTERESTING!!!! I like things that are unique. You might have a very rare dealer option or something. How did the holes look in the cab and the fasteners that installed them. Were the holes indexed and fasteners the correct era? (no wood screws or anything) I find it very interesting that the headrest slides are joggled so drastictly to compensate for the cab mounting position, this could only be used in a truck and the slides look professionally bent (not vise & hammer). I'm no headrest expert, but they don't look like another headrest that I reconize.

Dan72cst the headrests are very interesting. They are bent to fit perfectly behind the seat and these looked like they belong there. The screws that held them down are nice screws like the ones that hold your door panels on (good finish with a taper to fit flush in the hole). So no wood screws or hardware store screws here. These headrests are not home made and to me really look like a factory or dealer option. That is why I have made the post here, to see if anyone has seen headrests in the trucks. To me if you haven’t seen one doesn’t mean something like this doesn’t exists or it is not possible to be put in by a dealer. Courtesy Chevrolet inc. in Seattle WA sold this truck back in 68 and I wish I knew the owner to ask him/her.
I have the build sheet that was attached to the seat. Can someone please let me know what the 632 code is? A50 Bucket seats 632 Black B/seat trim?

chaptr2, Those head rest are after market from the late 60's and early 70's. I installed a set for my parents in 1966 in their Dodge.
Those probly were install by a previous owner. Sorry I can't ID your code.

I think the 632 number would just be the color code of the vinyl seats. 68suburban has or had a couple of 67-68 full dealer ordering books that should include color codes of the interior parts. You might want to contact him.
My guess is those head rests are a period aftermarket thing. Head rests were not required even in cars until the early-mid seventies. Those seats otherwise look correct to me comparing them to other 67-68 documentation I have. Does the vinyl in the head rests match the vinyl in the seats exactly in color and texture? Is there any logo or brand name on the head rests? That's a cool find!

Could they have come out of some military truck? They could have had some strange spec.

Tom, who knows where this truck has been? The headrests match the seats in color and texture, but there are no tags on the headrests at all. There is a zipper on the bottom of the headrests and I looked inside of them. The only think I could see was 368 hand written in them and I don't have clue what that means. It's just weird that nobody has ever seen these things. Factory or after market. Oh well I will take them as they are and maybe see if someone wants them when I decide what to do with them. Thanks everyone!
