engine questions

im out of comission due to a surgery for a while and i have decided to build up my 350 out of my 68 gmc and build myself a nice work truck out it for me and my dd to use and i was wondering what the outcome of putting some 283 heads on the 350 would be or even if the heads would be able to beput on the 350
so if anyone knows if 283 haeds can bolt nto a 350 and what effects it would have on the engines compession and troque and hp i would like to know
thanks

Re: engine questions

All SBC heads should be interchangeable until you get to 1986 or so.....except the Small Block 400- those have siamesed center bores so there's water jacket issues. The source of the heads really doesn't determine the compression ratio and the like. It all has to do with Combustion Chamber volume, deck height, piston profile, rod length and crank stroke. I don't have the specific characteristics of all the various SBC heads memorized- so you'd hafta check valve size, C.C. volume and possibly intake runner volume for somebody on here to make an educated assesment of what the results might be.

Re: engine questions

Dingfodgy's got some good info there. My gut is saying it ain't going to be a good combo.
