Torquing the head bolts

I know that when you torque the head bolts that you should put a little oil on under the head of the bolt, but what about the threads? Will it affect the sealer they put on the bolts that go into the water jackets? Just want to make sure I do this right the first time don't want to have to do it twice

i dont believe it mess with them, just remember to torque them in the right order and in steps.

The reason for oiling under the head of the bolt is so you don't gall the surface of the head when torquing.

By they, are you refering to some kind of factory applied stuff on aftermarket bolts? You really need to be sure to use a good liquid sealer. The bolts will leak if you don't. (ask me how I know)

If you apply a good liquid type sealant on the waterjacket related bolts, that is all that you need on them. The sealer has liquid base will lube the threads as necessary to do your torque settings. The oil on the others needs to be minimal, so that you don't fill the bottoms of the bolt holes (if they are a blind hole )and cause a possible crack in your block. All you wnat is to get the appropriate torque settings and then you are done.
