custom crew cab discussion
i was thinking of changing directions as i mentioned in the 55-59 thread. i want a crew cab truck to haul my family in and my toys behind, and since i am building a truck, why not put those 2 ideas together. i did a crude mspaint chop of entourageguy's truck (because it was a good side shot) and this is what i came up with
i know the photochop job is horrible, but i don't have photoshop. with the shape of the doors, it seems difficult to make it look right. i have always liked the look of the old lincoln continentals with the suicide doors, so i did it like that

Re: custom crew cab discussion
Here's a really crappy MS Paint chop. I shortened the rear door a little, and reshaped the rear edge of the door. Using the front doors placed on the truck backwards as rear doors is a good idea but I think with some metal work they could look really nice.

Re: custom crew cab discussion
Also here's another idea. I cut down the bed to make lessen the wheelbase for better turning radius. It's basically how new crew cab half tons are. Just an idea...

Re: custom crew cab discussion
wow, those look pretty good! thanks guys! i was just talking to my fiance about it at dinner, and we were talking about straightening the center post area. honestly, i know the big back window is the more popular look, but i like the little window.
also i like to have at least the 6 foot bed; i think shorter messes up the proportions too much for me. pyrotechnic, your first one look the best to me.

Re: custom crew cab discussion
now does anybody have a good side shot of a truck not lowered or maybe even lifted, but just a couple inches?

Re: custom crew cab discussion
that's hot! i' afraid throwing in a chop job with the crew cab mod may put this in the realm of over my fricken head, never ending type of project, but that does look mean!
now somebody fit a 55 hood on it to smooth out the front end with the 4-light front end....

Re: custom crew cab discussion
This one is on US Body Source's website, not a crew cab but extended quite a bit and on a newer chassis

Re: custom crew cab discussion
those a great ideas! don't you wish it was that easy! if you do some diging in the railroad area you will probably find pic's of the TF and AD 4dr conversions the railroad used to haul service crews up and down the tracks. i believe the park services used them also. as a kid i remember riding in a AD style 4dr truck and remember seeing a picture on the shop wall of a snow blower for clearing the tracks that was a 4dr. i wan't to say picture was taken somewhere in colorado?

Re: custom crew cab discussion
a frame swap may prove to be easiest if i want a diesel. the two major things for me to work out besides the cab is the front suspension and the motor. i want a 5.9L cummins, but that would end up being either a custom frame, or a dodge chassis under the chevy truck. i could look for a chevy 2500 or 3500 i guess, and use the duramax...
i still have the 8-lug 3/4 straight axle from my truck that i could use, but it would need some custom disc brakes, and some sort of power steering worked out.

Re: custom crew cab discussion
your idea of using a later chassis is probably the way to go. i have never seen a 8-lug disc conversion for a TF. later chassis would give you ps.,pdb, independent suspension.....

Re: custom crew cab discussion
Here's another crappy MS paint deal. This time, I did 2 regular doors modified and placed behind the front doors but still on their respect left and right sides.
