Shift Linkage Crisis

Need some advice on my 69 bbc. I purchased the lokar cable linkage which was junk so I decided to go with the stock linkage, but it won't shift past drive without hitting the headers. Don't really won't to put a floor shifter in so I thought about cutting the bracket that goes on the tranny and shortening it so it is farther toward the end of the rod and closer to the tranny so it will clear to the inside of my headers. Any pros or cons about this would be greatly appreciated.

A picture of your set up would really help out -

Re: Shift Linkage Crisis

Yea, I know just not a good way to get a clean shot of the area. Too many mufflers, pipes, transmission, e-brake cable, etc. in the way. Has anyone ever modified the factory linkage I guess is what I'm asking.

Re: Shift Linkage Crisis

There is a thread in the FAQ section. The Lokars looked like the only way to go. I am sure they weren't cables though, they were adjustable rods.

I don't know what tranny you are running or what headers you have but I have a big block/th400 with full length headers in the '67 and I am using the stock linkage with no problem.... Is the truck an original BB truck or converted? What motor mounts (frame brackets) are you using, big blocks or regular V-8's?

When you post a question like this you really should include as much information as you can. I know it may not seem important but it will make a lot of difference on how many responses you get and the quality and accuracy of the replies....

Just a suggestion.

Re: Shift Linkage Crisis

I used one of the Lokar column cable linkages on my truck. I went with this style for different reasons than you but it might solve your clearance issue.
