67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction because I can't seem to find anything through the search feature.

I need to convert a 67-68 Chevy core support to a GMC one. Has this been the topic of any threads?

I assume it's just a matter of welding on the headlight brackets?

That's pretty much it. You will also need the hood latch assembly.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you just us the grill to line up where you would weld it on?

Re: 67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

I make a cardboard or posterboard templet around the headlight brackets spot welded to the GMC radiator support, then I move the templet to the Chevy core support and drill out the spot welds on the Headlight brackets holding it to the GMC core support and then when I go to install it on the Chevy the template allows me to install it exactly as it was on the GMC, it better over measuring, re-measuring, measuring again, and then finding after done I'm slightly off a little in one direction. Far easier to be precise using the template.

I went into emails to investigate this and found the reason that your emails had not been responded to and the fact is you sent the first one at 12:14am Saturday March 15th our time in Indiana, we closed on Friday March14th at 5pm and we reopen Monday March 17th at 9am so no one has seen youir emails till I just looked.
Your order has shipped and everything will arrive before March 23rd as you requested, tomorrow morning after we open we will also contact you.

Re: 67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

wouldnt u be better off finding an original gmc core support and repairing that one if u have to rather then drilling weding nd measuring to make the chevy a gmc, thats the route i woud take before i thought about changing chevy core support

I'd love to take that route, but 67-68 GMC core supports are not readily available...

Re: 67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

I did this mod too, I just took measurements and swaped them over. Btw gmc core supports were the same from 67-72. Still hard to come across originals though.

If you can wait I might have a 67 GMC core support for you in about a month.

Re: 67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

Now we're getting somewhere!! I was able to get a 72 GMC core support. Now, are you telling me that this will be the same as a 67 and will fit the 67 GMC front clip and grill just fine?
If so, you all made my month.

Re: 67-68 GMC Radiator/Core Support

yup the 72 core support will work with the 67 front clip i have a 72 core on my 68 gmc and it bolted up no problems its alot easier to just use an original then modify a chevy to fit even if an original is hard to come by
good luck
