Crap!!
I've been limping along in the 'burb with it's slipping transmission for about 8 months now. It's not a problem if you know how to drive it. In fact, it works great for me. Well, it worked great for me.
I've been driving my wife's car to work (45 miles one way) the last two days, and she's been driving the 'burb. In two days, she managed to kill it. She probably didn't even drive it 20 miles! Kinda funny though. She was headed to the house and it finally gave out. She discovered that reverse still worked, so she turned around and drove home backwards! My boys (5yrs and 3yrs) got a kick out of it. Just venting. Now I'm dying to get the tax return so I can get a 700r4 for it.

Well congradulate your wife for realizing and having enough brains to know it could still be driven backwards. I personally know a lot of women who'd just call a tow truck, even if the car was sitting outside their driveway. lol.

Yeah, she grew up poor in a Ford mechanic family. She knows all about breaking down. Oops... hope she (or my father-in-law) doesn't see that wise-crack!

Any dents in the back bumper? Most people can't back up a Suburban to save their soul. I had an 86 Burban for about 10 years and remember when I was shopping to buy it, almost all of the trucks I looked at had bent back bumpers.
I had trouble with the 700R4 and nursed it for a long time before I sold the truck. It had been rebuilt once (but not well I suspect) and it needed to be done again. If you let off the gas on the 2-3 shift it was fine but if you stepped on it, it would slip. It also was a bear to keep in 4th on the highway. A little change in grade or a bit of wind and it would shift down and not come back up unless you dropped to about 45 mph and then nursed it up to speed again. My daily driver is a Toyota 4Runner now and I got the 5 speed.

I once saw my wife do a 16 point turn inside of our two car garage just to avoid having to back her volkswagon Jetta out past my friend's F@#d truck in the driveway. She'd have her work cutout for her now with the tahoe

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I know you'll enjoy your new tranny when you get it. Also, sounds like your bride has some common sense....not like my ex-wife.
However, I just read a newspaper article in which a study was done that seems to point to the proof that the female hormones contained in beer, contribute to the femininization of men who consume too much of it. In that article, 100 men were each given 6 pints of beer to drink in one hour. To a man, each experienced weight gain, became irrational, had to sit down to urinate and was prone to think everything that he said was correct. I suspect that each was also unable to drive very well and had trouble finding their way with or without a map. Just a thought....but the article stated that further testing was not warranted, nor needed.

So, You dumped a truck on its last legs on your ol' lady, and when it crapped out you act like its her fault!? Man, that would have gotten me a rolling pin upside the head. Kudos for the lady for a creative solution to YOUR problem! (once again, there are two kinds of automatics, those that quit working and those that WILL quit working!)

Great wife you have! Also, good planning. Just think, you could have nursed that old tranny for another 6 months but now you are forced to buy a new one and your wife can't complain because A) she KNOWS it needs one and B) she is the one that finished it off!

If I let my wife drive my car or truck or boat or whatever, I fully expect her to wreck it. Then I don't get so mad when it happens. On the rare occasions when she doesn't wreck something then it's like a bonus. Don't laugh, it keeps me from killing her.

I figured she'd finish off the transmission. I tried to tell her, but she insisted that it would be cheaper for me to drive her car to work and let her drive the "gas guzzler" around town.
Good thing I was planning on putting a 700r4 in anyway... At least this way, she'll feel some ownership in the transmission conversion!
