76 3/4 rear axle question
Does anybody know what GM called the corporate rear axle in the mid 70's C-20? I bought one today for my Rocket powered f@rd......Full floater, bolt in pinion housing, 3.73 gears, weighs about 400 pounds i think.........frickin' heavy. I gave $175 for it delivered to my barn drum to drum, brake lines, cables and all.

That would be a 14 bolt full-floater......a very strong, durable axle.

Yeah, it should take everything the rocket 350 can dish out, and then some. I have a couple friends that are using them in Jeeps for rock crawling, powered with fuel injected 350's and Th-400's. Standing up on end and hopping, climbing 4' walls, etc, etc........they haven't ripped one up yet.

And you can do a disk brake swap on the back pretty cheap.

This thing is gonna be a "plow horse". I got a cammed up Olds 350 that came out of a stock car in a trade, along with the Th-350 with a shift kit. I figure that 350 oughta like the 3.73's pretty good, and it a 49 F@rd 1 ton, should look pretty cool pulling the boat to the lake. I'm using the brake pedal and master cylinder/booster from my junk 87 k-10, along with all updated wiring from various cars. Now all I need to do is bolt the axle under it and have a driveshaft made for it. The motor is in and bolted down. I'm not real sure what I want to do for steering yet, gotta do some measuring. I have a rack and pinion set up from a 91 lumina van, but I'm not sure it's gonna be stout enough to turn a stock 49 1 ton front axle with an Oldsmobile sitting on top of it. I'm hopeing to have it running and driving for summer so I can take it up to the Mason City tractor pull and hook it to the sled. This old dog's gonna be alot of fun. So who made the axle for GM anyway?.....eaton, dana, rockwell?.......I havent' taken time to look at it much because it's frickin' cold out there.
