Delco Oil filter question
Today at work a guy ask if i had a PF 952 oil filter in stock, well i checked i didnt i crossed it over to puralator filter wisely he said he would just wait for the delco filter to come in tomorrow, well i ask what the filter was for and he said a built Small block, i suggested that he just use a 1218 and he said he need one that would hold an extra quart of oil. i ask why and he claims that this will help keep more oil in the pan becoz he complained it was holding super high oil pressure....any truth to this or any benefit from using such a filter??

Re: Delco Oil filter question
Never heard of a PF 952. I have heard and use a PF 52 on my 1994 4x4. They put it in sideways and you can't fit the PF 1218 in there. I think the PF 52 is smaller diameter and possibly shorter. I know my 80's model stuff runs the PF 1218 no matter 2x4 or 4x4. Also, changing the PF 52 always is a pain since oil runs down all over the u joint on the drive shaft. Usually all over my arm since you have to put it all crazy up in there to reach. Then that single drip of oil left hiding someplace that gets you in the face.

Re: Delco Oil filter question
probably one of the 2 quart jobbers that they used on the big trucks C50-60's that had Tall Deck 427's and 366's. Alot of guys think it helps to have that extra quart of oil in the system. I don't know if I agree or not.
And I don't see how it would lower his oil pressure any

Re: Delco Oil filter question
i could not see the 2 qt. filter dropping oil pressure any. it could drop oil temp a little by having and extra qt. in the system....imo

Re: Delco Oil filter question
I think the guy thinks that you should only put 5 quarts in it... regardless of the filter size. That is the ONLY way I can see the level or pressure being chainged... if he failed to add the extra quart.
