Mystery Wires
Was poking around under the hood the other day and ran across this loom that I can't find a component for(can't find anything not hooked up). Anyone have any ideas.
I attached a couple photos(not the best, sorry) of the loom and the connectors(lying on the inner fender). 71 C/10 350/TH350 Last edited by Highsteel; 03-17-2008 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Better Photo of wire ends |

Re: Mystery Wires
Really. Maybe on the modulator on a TH350? Not much of an automatic mechanic.Could this degrade performance? I mean it shifts and all, but it does seem kinda soft and mushy, unless I've just had a standard for too long.

Re: Mystery Wires
The Alt. is located on the drivers side. I'm afraid the pic is a little deceiving. While the one boot looks like the lug cover for the back of the alt it actually contains two female spade receptacles positioned at a 90 degree angle thusly |_. The other accepts two male spades side by side (- -). There is also I believe to be a single ground wire.
Back-up lights would be a very good possibility except they work and the sticker in the glove box says TH350 from the factory(correct vin #) The truck does have a K & H trailer brake controller and its condition is unknown. I don't recall if there are wires going to the trany. All my work down there so far has been rear seal replacement in the trans. Didn't get very far forward from there. Re: Mystery Wires
I found those wires while hooking up the new alternator after someone stole the other one. The wires were bundled up and tucked into the driver side fenderwell next to the firewall. My friend that helped me reinstall everything hooked it up to the alt, charges just fine, (dont hurt either to have a 1000 CA battery either) and that was back in December of last year, so I believe that they are in fact altenator wiring for an internal regulated alt. Well the side by side terminal plug at least. I ll be damned If I can tell ya what the other is for.

Re: Mystery Wires
internal regulated alt. seems to be the popular consensus.
DUH! The thing does in fact have a new alt/EXTERNAL regulator. Sorry to here that you lost one due to theft. Have you installed a hood release in the cab or hood lock of some kind? I have seen some in pics here(in-cab release) and thought it a pretty good idea, along with something to prevent starting. Considering all the thefts this might be a good thread to start. It could have instructionals for dizzy disablers, battery cut-offs,.......... Peace Out |

Re: Mystery Wires
TSC :Transmission Spark Control. Early smog stuff. The flat plug use to go to a vaccum switch close to the carb. The "ground" wire went to a temp switch in the passenger side head. The last plug went to a switch on the tranny just above the cooling lines. Somewhere, there used to be a relay also. All these wires combined to kill the vaccum advance on the dizzy if the engine was cold (below 32°F) or the tranny was not in 3rd gear.
I removed mine completely and gave the temp switch to a member that was doing a complete factory rebuild.
