Put a down on an 86 Burb!

Just put a down on an 86 burb. Got a really good deal on it too! It's a 4X4 3/4 ton, originally a diesel but the owner swapped it to a 350 and there a rebuilt turbo 400 behind it (nice thing is NO smog). Has dual exhaust, 4" lift, and a new 650 Edelbrock carb. Has a new alternator, distributor, plugs and wires. I'm going to change out the oil and all the differential fluids as soon as I get it on Wednesday. What weight should I use on the oil? (Both on the engine and differentials). I will be towing on occasion so I want to use synthetic. Can I just use 75W-90W on the front and rear differentials and the gear box? Also, when I turn on the lights it makes a buzzing sound. The owner said because there's a light out somewhere??? Does that sound right? I'll post pics here within the week after I get it washed and waxed.

Re: Put a down on an 86 Burb!

Check the axles and be sure if it is, or isn't a positrac before changing! All it takes is 1 bad change to cause you all sorts of problems! I think the transfer case in it takes transmission fluid. Far as engine oil you will get as many answers as there are people on this board. Personally I use Delvac 15/40 with a 2 qt Wix filter. add 2 oz per qt of Energy Release, and 1 can of stp. The only exception to this rule is if the engine has run pensoil! If so Don't use Delvac oil in it! It will clean the engine up too good and you won't be able to keep oil in it!

I'll ck for posi traction but I think it has LSD differential I'll double check when I get it and re-post. Why the enegy release and stp though?

Stp is a liquid graphite. (the base of most non synthetic oils) Energy release is just unbelievable!

Re: Put a down on an 86 Burb!

Here's a couple pics. Also on the Energy release do I put that in both differentials and the gear box? (Obviously at the recommended mixing ratio)

Re: Put a down on an 86 Burb!

If it is a positraction DO NOT put energy release in! It will do the same thing as putting 90 wt in it. I use the energy release in engine oil, and power steering oil. The only problem with energy release (if you can call it a problem) is I can't tell you what it does inside an engine. I have never had an engine apart I put energy release in. I just drove my Wifes 90 burb to get gas (OUCH $103) 435000 miles on it, 30 lbs oil pressure hot at idle, and the engine has never been opened.

Re: Put a down on an 86 Burb!

I'd like to put a muncie SM465 tranny in this. What all do I need to make the switch and is it fairly easily doable?
