Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
So what do you all think...should i re-paint it copper or go gun metal gray? I have already painted and re-did the interior black on black (except of the seats...im still looking for a nice bench to toss in there).

I will be rocking the chrome ones you see in the 2nd pic...they came off a 90's silverado, i think.

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
tough choice. i'm a big fan of silver / pewter / gun metal vehicles, but the copper also looks really sharp.
do you have example pics of both colours? |

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
not officially...I have not selected the paint yet...but i have some trucks that i like the color of and would try to match.
Basically i would get the copper you see on the truck now...your going to have to use your imagination to bring it back to life...or something like below...

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
my vote is for gun metal... i had posted a thread a couple months ago that suggested someone completely doing the metal on the dash with a blue-ing kit you would use for a gun barrel... it was my first "original" idea for a truck.... didnt go too far

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
That sounds like a great idea...I wish i had been on the site back then when i had my interior down to nothing but a steering wheel. All the metal was copper and i wanted to go with a more universal color so it would match anything i went with on the exterior...so now it is black...but a blue-ing kit would have been sweet. I have never used one...what type of protection would it give the metal?

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
i think with a blue-ing kit you have to suberse the part into a vat of the solution. it would require you to remove the windshield and drill out spot welds to get the metal dash out. as far as the paint goes, i would go with copper, i would even check out the late model dodge copper they use on the daytona trucks.

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
You might want to check out a color called 'Charcoal Grey' It's a really dark, almost black grey. It comes stock on the the new exploreres.
that is IF you wanted to go kind of a gunmetal color. |

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
Yeah, in my search for the right gray...i looked at a bunch of charcoals.
the copper idea came from one of my co-workers who called it "vintage chevy". All of my younger friend want me to go gray. I'm truly torn...I have no intention of making the truck original or vintage...but i do like the idea of having a classic color that is unique, but at the same time charcoal/gun metal gray looks so slick. Should i put it to a vote? Start a new thread and tally the votes?

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
in reality, even though you blue the metal of a gun, you still have to oil it to keep it from rusting, but im sure that there is a laquer finish or clear coat that you could put on op that would keep you from having to oil your dash.
as far as application, you wouldnt have to dip it in a vat- my little brother and dad sat down and just rubbed this solution on it to blue it if im not mistaken |

Re: Classic Copper or Gun Metal Gray
DUDE! THAT IS EASILY A $5000 PAINT JOB! MY TRUCK COST $400!
I just don't think i can afford a paint job that nice for my budget. I guess i should add that as a caveat, i am going to help a buddy spray it in his brothers booth. I also need to work with a forgiving color... (man i wish i had the money to build a truck like that)
