Re: Help please
If he replaced a serpentine belt, there was only one of them. If there was more than one belt, they are v-belts. I think these cars used serp. belts as 2000 was the first year of the 3rd gen. cars. Also, if it's a serp. belt they can't be "tightened"; they have a tensioner that does it automatically. Have you checked the power steering fluid? If it does have v-belts, one of the belts could be rubbing something. I know my 1st gen eclipse had a cover over the belts that could make noise at time if it was replaced properly. It's hard to say if you can drive it or not without knowing the cause of the noise. Can you provide a pic?

Re: Help please
One is a serpentine belt and the other was a power steering belt. I have a 98 Mitsubishi and thats what mine are.
Depends on how much driving your doing for the next couple of days. Does it squeek once you start but then stops after a couple of minutes, like when its gotten warm? Or does it squeek ALL the time? I'm sure either way, it won't break but if it's constant, I'm sure the noise is embarrassing. Hope that helps.

Re: Help please
Not all serp. belts are self adjusting.
and I believe there are more than one on your vehicle, if its left loose too long it will glaze up the belt, you would benefit by tightening the loose culprit, if its not adjustable than the belt they installed is too long, but my memory tells me they are adjustable. why not take it back to the guy you paid to have em put on, and have him rectify it , shouldnt re-charge you, good luck. |
