Fel pro oil pan gasket?

Hey guys,
I have a new GM crate motor and was thinking of replacing the 4 piece oil pan gasket with the one piece fel-pro type. Since the motor is out of the truck I figure this is the time to do it. do you think this is a good idea or should I stay with the new 4 piece gasket that GM installed?...thanks rick

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

the one piece is well worth the time and money to install

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

I used the same bolts. No need to get longer ones. I agree with above. After doing everything right and still dealing with chronic leak problems I'll never use a 4 piece gasket again.

I like using studs, too. It makes installing the pan that much easier.

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

Anyone know if they're including these in their full engine gasket kits yet?

I have to admit - I've NEVER had the old-style gasket setup leak for me

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

all the Fel pro 1 piece pan gaskets i've bought came with new bolts because they are longer due to the new gasket thickness. They are definatly worth it!

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

I have used several - none came with new bolts tho.
I ended up buying longer sst bolts
They all worked very well.
I understand the MR. Gasket 1 pc works even better.

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

The one I use didn't come with longer bolts, but the factory bolts worked fine. No leaks for nearly 2 years now.

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

i bought one for the crate moter in my vette when i bought it and tore it down for inspection but couldn't use it. crate moter blocks are cut out for dipsticks on both sides unless felpro makes a 1 piece just for crate moters your sol on the 1 piece. i had to buy 2 pan gasket sets to make 1

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

I was worried about that too, but it looks like if you purchase one for a 1975 and above SBC it has both sides.

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

newer is better, I wouldnt use another type of oil pan gasket, big or small block, so much easier to install and better sealing..... go with one piece..... no hesitation should be needed

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

absoluetly DO IT!!!!

re-usable, they have crush sleeves in each corner so you can't over torque the gasket and create leaks... plus yes they come with the bolts. and the kit comes with those handy little plastic anti-gravitational do-dads that hold the gasket in place upside down(wow)...

plus its one piece! where can you go wrong?

while you are at it get the rubber re-usable valve cover gaskets too, $15 bucks=worth every penny!

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

Anyone take it off and reinstall with out any leaks? What did you do about the corners where the silicone goes?

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

I have had great luck with these gaskets. I put one on a 87 4x4 burb in the driveway and I put one on my 72 Jimmy. A little pricey but I love them. Both of mine came with new bolts. I have not reused a gasket but I don't see why you couldn't. I did not use any silicone on either of my installs. I also have a rubber gasket on my turbo 350 auto in the Jimmy and yes I have had that off and on a few times without problems.

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

yeah i have re-used my gasket... i swapped out a custom oil pan that i had made with a kickout 7qt moroso oil pan....for the silicone you just peel it off, dry the gasket and re-use it. worth its weight in gold!

Re: Fel pro oil pan gasket?

Cost $33.00 at national auto parts. Went to autozone first.... the computer said they had it for $23.00, but the kid behind the counter could not find it or did not care to find it. Anyway, it cost me 10 bucks more at National. Check out the install.
