new tranny??

Alright when i put my foot in it my tranny does something weird. It shifts but in between the shifts it revvs up, could this be some type of adjustment or what? I hope i dont need a new tranny, any help is appreciated. it is a th350
also when i drive it normally just a smooth accleration it shifts fine.

Drive er easy, till you have the scratch to build one.....kindof sounds to me thats where you are headed....crazyL oops, did a reread, new trans, as in rebuild?

No its not a new trans, but its a later model engine and tranny so i figured it should have a little more life in it but i guess if a rebuild or replacement is in order thats what it takes.

to me its sounds like the kickdown function of your trans, quick check, diconect your kickdown cable at the carb, and test again, it should not shift/rev high. i have a 305 in my c10 with no ass to it, i have a th350, when i floor it the tranny downshifts to second gear to optimize the better gear of second gear, ofcourse when you downshift your engine is going to rev up, since my engine has no ass it revs high but doesnt really fell like i am going anywhere, then she will upshift to 3rd and your rpms will go down. the whole purpose of this downshifting is also known as passing gear so you can whomp down on the pedal and pass people. if all this is the case your tranny is fine. you may need to adjust the kickdown cable if it is adjusted improperly. if it bothers you altogether, you can just disconect it without hurting the trans. i hope this is it and not something else. its hard to tell when we cant be there in the truck with you. let us know what you find.

Sounds like your modulator is sticking, or you have a vacuum leak going to it. Check for cracked vacuum hoses leading to the trans. It is not a kick down problem, thats not the way that works.

When is the last time you changed your fluid and filter?

Alright, its been awhile since the fluid was changed. If i want to adjust the kickdown how do i do that?

The kick down down shifts the trans to 2nd gear when you stomp the gas, I don't think that is your problem, but look on the driver's side of your engine, behind the carb. There will be a bolt going through a long slot in a plastic base, with a cable running through it. loosen the bolt and slide the cable foward or backward until you are happy with the performance.

cool thanks. And also i was thinking (seeing as though i'm at school and bored as hell) how hard would it be to replace the modulator on the tranny?
