Replace Transmission

I am getting ready to replace a th350 transmission in a 1972 GMC 1500. A couple of questions... i am a backyard mechanic and am wondering how difficult a job this whole thing is and if anyone has heard of Transplant Transmission out of arizona. They had the best deal of a rebuilt...any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Replace Transmission

never heard of them.
but, the trans swap even for a beginner that knows a little about tools could do it all in about 3-4 hours. just make sure to use jack stands, a nice floor jack with a 12x12 piece of plywood for the trans pan to sit on(helps to even the load),12 quarts of trans fluid.. and remember! 1 quart of fluid in the converter before you put it on the trans shaft! very important to do that or you will be doing it again!

its not that hard of a job, its just messy
but, it aint no fun if ya dont git dirty!

Re: Replace Transmission

if you have never rebuilt a trans, dont try it one you want to drive yourself... it can be very frustrating and complicated if you are not familiar with the transmissions internals!
