damn vent windows

i am replacing the vent window weatherstripping. what a pain. i have put everything back together, but the window doesn't seal well. is there a trick to these? i can post pix if it will help. first, rivets suck. second, pivot rivets suck more. the top of the window doesn't fit into matching groove of the stripping on the top of the window. like something looks crooked. i'm sick of messing with these and want to get my windows back in. help!!

Nice to meet you rage777, (myself kinda standing back waiting for the ol' thrown wrench.) It is just a window. Taking your time on a project that is aggrivating you has seemed to help me get through succesfully. Yes, a picture would be helpful. Where did you get your parts? What are you doing with it anyway? Re: damn vent windows

not ready to throw the wrench yet. maybe the whole window. i got my parts from truck and car shop in orange, ca. all the parts are the right ones. is the top rubber matched up right? that gap is what's left after closing the window as much as possible with new weatherstrip.

oh and they will be very very tight when you first do this cuase of the new rubber. i did mine in late oct and thier still a *****. also repro parts are just that. they are not originals. you make have to trim and adjust sumthings. i know i stimmed a lil rubber here an there to get it just right.

Re: damn vent windows

Last set we did, we got new rubbers from I think it is "the truck shop " in California. They did not fit worth a darn. So six months later, take door and everthing apart, try not to chip the new paint, And replaced them with parts from Classic Parts of America(Chevy Duty). Those fits like originals and must have been where we got our first set from for the other truck. Don't remember the brand names and you can't tell much difference by looking but they fit. The ones from "Chevy Duty" are what I will buy for the next set I do.

Edit - just reread you post and if that is the same place I got my first set from, you might as well stop now and just get the ones from Chevy Duty or any vendor on here that sells the same brand.
Those you have now will never fit right, go ahead and flame me about gettings parts from wherever, but I am sick of doing and paying for things twice and vendors that sell parts that don't fit right, need to hear about it.

Re: damn vent windows

thanks for all your input guys. anyone have or know where i can look at pictures of how it's supposed to look when closed? and anyone have tips on the pivot rivets? that little tool is horrible. i just don't want to spend a ton on a hand squeezer for 2 rivets.

Re: damn vent windows

I know it's cheating but I used pop rivets and so far I haven't had any problem - they were a thousand times easier. Mu rubber seal like yours didin't fit very well - I ended up putting it in a vise and squeezing it in, and got it most of the way. I've only done the drivers door so far, I'm afraid to do the passenger side. BTW, I got mine from Brothers.
