Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
So I bought a repop gas tank because mine was ruined. I new the neck was different but the old tank was shot. I didn't keep the old tank cause it was rotten and I didn't think I needed it. Well since then I've figured out the preffered method of installing the new tanks correctly is to take the old neck off and have it soldered or welded on the new tank. I put an ad on the board for the neck off of a used tank but no takers. So this is where I need yall smart folks what options do I have. Can I safely run a fuel hose between the frame rail and bed. I think I can cut the neck of shorter. Then go get some specialty oil/fuel hose from the Hydraulics place down the street and get something that would flex in there.
But I wanted to run this by the smart people -Thanks, Jason

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
Jason, I went to a Rubber Distributor in town, they are called Delta Rubber. They may have stores in other locations or maybe even a website. They have a marine grade fuel hose the exact dimension for our Blazers. The fuel hose has wire wrapped inside to keep it from collapsing. Much like some radiator hoses. This is what I'm using. I have not put any miles on my Jimmy since installing this so can't say how long it will work or if it will rub through. I think I bought 3ft for like $28.

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
As long as you protect the hose from getting cut or rubbed, go for it. My 92 truck has a rubber filler neck & I put a 3" body lift on & it came with a extension piece you splice into the rubber hose. Works good. I think it'll be allright. If you're not comfortable with the rubber hose, I'm sure you can find a fabricator who'd make a hardline for your tank. Any welder would probablly do it since it's a new tank & never had fuel in it. Might be hard if you can't bring the whole rig in to see how it routes. You might find a tank in a junkyard & as long as the filler is in good shape, you're golden. Good luck!

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
i dont know how long it will last but i have used a piece of galvanized exhaust pipe i got from a muff shop on an old tractor i had it has been on there almost two years and has not fallen off or rusted off yet
used it for a filler neck extension so my dad wouldnt have to lift the old heavy hood to put fuel in it it could be bent real nice and welded if you can make the sizing work |

If you can wait till the snow pack melts up here, I have a tank in a parts blazer I'd cut up for you.
All I'd ask for is shipping. |

Just had the same issue on my Blazer. 22 inches of NAPA fuel hose does the trick. Stuff's expensive though $19 and some change.

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
The hose I used was GOOD hose, thick and wire wrapped in the middle. Went from the tank to an elbow that I had to make to go up then to the fuel fill. Worked great. The hose I used was Gates hose. The distributor only had one hose for the size I needed. link below shows similar, It is heavy duty.

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
I'll check it out and if I can forge through the 60 yards of wet snow sinking to my hips every step, then determine if it's possible to dig down under the blazer to get to the tank, I'll pull it for ya...how's that?

Re: Smart Folks Need Help? repop gas tank issue
Here are a couple pics I took this morning to show how I used the old tank's filler neck. About a 4" piece of hose goes from the new tanks existing filler neck and attaches to the bent piece that I cut off my old tank, then it connects to the long piece that will go up the side of the Blazer.
The rubber hose is 1 3/8" id so you ought to call an exhaust shop and see if they have access to any exhaust tubing with an outer diameter of 1 3/8". If so, just have them bend you up a curved piece and slap that in to get you going. Here is a pic of my old tank. I cut off to about 1 1/2" behind that little tab that you see on the side of the filler neck. For reference, you can see how I folded that tab flat in the first two pics.
