Napa can`t find me shoes
I`m doing the rear brakes on my`72 K2500 with a Dana60.They don`t ask what rear or any specific questions pertaining to options with rears/brakes.The shoes they got me are larger diameter,1/4" too wide, and where the pin to hold the e-brake mounts is laminated on both sides where mine aren`t.I take them back and they`re baffled.Going back in years they are all calling for the same part# they gave me.They looked ahead and couldn`t find anything with the same diameter & width.Mine are 11 5/32" x 2 1/2" and all they can come up with are larger diameter and are 2 3/4".Argh!!!This ain`t no Edsel! They are bringing a set of shoes that are 2 1/2" today, but not the same diameter. We`ll see.I managed to get every part neede to do my HO52 yet can`t get brakes for a Dana60 which ws generic and found in Fords,Dodges,IHs...I know the brakes differed.I may end up needing to leave it up on stands awhile and have my old shoes custom re-lined.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
Common problem, unfortunately. Suppliers both retail and wholesale tend to stock only the most common application for obvious reasons. Their profit margins are not high on brake stuff. RE-lining may be your best solution. Good luck

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
is there a local 4x4 shop that might be able to help locate some part numbers for you?
I have pretty good luck with a shop near me. They are a little higher than the parts store, but know what the heck I need (usually)

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
I don't have the numbers, but my napa guy said they can get either of the 2 p/n for rear shoes on a dana 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive. If anyone can confirm they are the same, I can give him a call and get some P/N for you.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
Thanks for the responses.I have a 3.73 14-bolt,what was the high (low number)Dana ratio?I thought it was 3.73 but someone said they were more like a 3.54 or something. This Dana has a Power-Loc which I`d like to keep(original).I`ll check those Bendix and Raybestos numbers. Finally,if that doesn`t work,Andy,I`ll be talking to you.
Napa was listing part numbers through the years, before and after`72.Just nothing in my dimensions. It`s like an incomplete listing.I managed to get everything I needed(everything) for the HO52 which isn`t a common rear by current parts store standards.Pre`72 Chevy only go figure.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
here is what rockauto said RAYBESTOS Part # 248PG {Professional Grade; 11.13 X 2.75}
Rear More Info Note the 2.75 not 2.50 as Tim's brakes are. Tim is it a chance that in the past that drums and shoes were swapped out and made to work? in the 1 ton brakes the show a RAYBESTOS Part # 320PG {Professional Grade; 13.00 X 2.50} Rear; 13" X 2-1/2" Rear Drum Brakes are to tall. or this RAYBESTOS Part # 127PG {Professional Grade; 12.00 X 2.50} Rear; Leaf Spring Suspension were still looking. Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
The GM parts book says the # is 5470627 12X2.5 Fits 68-72. It does not list a 11 5/32 at all.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
This guy is measuring the tip to tip of the shoe.I told him that wouldn`t be the actual diameter.I can`t see the screen he`s looking at and figure that`s what the listing is showing to measure.Do you think that`s the problem?I told him the drum says,"Max.Dia.12.80.He said that`s not how they measure the shoes.Could this be true.I told him I`m no parts man but I know a whole lot about these trucks.
It`s totally original with 83,000 miles.Nothing has been changed.I think they`re 12" brakes.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
I just did the rear's on my '70 with a dana 60. I got the parts from my parts department (cadillac dealer). I did some research and found that the leaf spring trucks have the larger diameter brakes (the 12" ones), and the coil spring trucks use the smaller diameter brakes(the 11" ones). Also, the brake cylinders are different from coil sprung to leaf sprung. I can get you the part #'s tommorro if you need them. I ended up using wagner quiet power shoes on mine 'cause they were in stock at the local warehouse. I am impressed with them. PM me if you need assistance still.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
Hey,thanks.I was thinking to call my Chevy parts guy if these shoes that come in are wrong. It`s a 50 mile round trip, but I`m going down that way today anyway. That`s right about the wheel cyls, same as Chevy. He asked if it had coils after establishing it`s a 4wd .
The same part# was given back through the years, but all 2 3/4".I think the program is just wrong. As they update maybe old part#s get mixed up and it doesn`t come up often enough to get attention.Besides, they`re not going to change it for a few.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
I went in today and the guy that I was dealing with said the ones he brought in were way too big.Fortunately he was real busy so I dealt with another guy I know that I`d prefer working with.He pulled out a "book" of all things. The young guy never tryed that. The book must have had better info or it was just Harold`s better skills. For one thing,he let me view the listings.Parts boy wouldn`t do that either.Parts boy was measuring tip to tip to get 11 5/32".I hat to doubt a guy at his job,but I asked if that was how they measure and not the actual drum measurement and he said yes.I told him the drum had 12.80 MAX.DIA. stamped,so wouldn`t they be 12" brakes which were listed.I tryed explaining that measuring the shoes the way he was wouldn`t give the diameter. The adjuster is about 2 1/2" so the radius continues to gain about another 1/2" in diameter. The 4wds all had 2 3/4" wide shoes.Only 2wds,inlc. P-series,had 2 1/2".Ok,so my 4wd has 2wd brakes, whatever.I told them it wouldn`t be the first time an automaker used what they had available to move a truck down the line. The fact is I`m putting brakes on my truck not the book! I had all the info and the boy was stuck on giving me what the book called for, even if it wasn`t what I had. It`s not about his age,it`s about how he thinks. He seems pretty good at this and has worked there a good while. But,he won`t learn by thinking that way.My 2 1/2" x 12" shoes will be in tomorrow morning.Only took from Saturday morning till Friday morning to get a set of shoes.

Re: Napa can`t find me shoes
hehe, if you get to know they people at your parts store good enough, they end up pointing you in the right direction(in the back) and letting you have at it. Since their book only has oem parts listed by part number, if i dont have the original part they really cant help me. So most of the time they are like "theres the BLANK section, theres the book, have fun. Let me know when you find it. And if you need more help you know where to find me." I kinda like it that way, i can look through a book for a part just as fast as they can.
