Wrench For Lower Control Arm Bushing

Can someone tell me what size wrench or socket to get for the lower control are bushing caps?

I think crazy has got it. I went to Sears and picked up a socket for around $20 to do mine. Pipe wrench will leave "scars"

I took an old cap in with me to the store to make sure I had the right size socket.

Yea,I cheated....... I walked out to the garage, & slipped a socket on the lower bushing! the thought of bustin a knuckle with a pipe wrench is still in my memory(ouch, done that) crazyL

17.00 dollars at Sears part number 947783000 1-5/8 socket

For any body planing on doing any front end work, the top control arm bushing caps use a 1 3/8 socket

Now the post comes in, LOL. I looked for several days before I came up with the right sizes. I measured at 1/16 over the actuals, but that was probably dirt and grease.

1 5/8 and 1 3/8 are correct. Now can someone explain how to put this back together and get the correct measurements.

The uppers are easy. Screw one cap in until it bottoms, then screw the shaft in until it bottoms, then turn shaft back 1/2 turn then screw the other cap on until it bottoms. This method gave me about equal spacing on both sides.

Not sure if this is right but it worked.

we used to have boats and i got sockets in the basement from 1''-3 3/4 also one 5'' socket the ratchet is like 50-60 lbs, too bad i cant ever use em.

Yeah, when I did mine I decided to invest in some 3/4" drive stuff. The 3/4" breaker kicks butt, but it costs a lot to get all of those sockets.

Make sure to get a male-3/4"-to-female-1/2" adapter for torquing.

I used a flat Jaw pip wrench no damage to the paint And I figure I got about 80 ftlbs.
